Yes, this is the end of GameMaker…well at least the end of official GameMaker Studio 1.X support. Worry not though, if you have GameMaker Studio 1.X it will continue to work as it always has and you can always jump onto the GameMaker Studio 2 platform which is the greatest sequel in the GameMaker software series to date. Indie Game Development has grown by leaps and bounds in the past years and GMS has played no small part in this so I wanted to give a quick reflection on some of the great titles that were produced using GMS 1.X to give us all one last round of nostalgia before fully embracing GMS 2. Battle X: Birth of the Alliance is a VR-optional shooter with real-world weapons, gear, vehicles, and more. So far, the game has only been announced for PC, but will be available on both Oculus Rift’s headset and Steam’s Vive. Early Access for the game will begin on April 30, 2018 through Steam. Battle X: Birth of the Alliance is a game where DNA is the ultimate weapon, and securing a deadly pathogen is your main goal. Taking cover using entire body movements is one of the innovations found in the game. It includes PvP multiplayer, co-op multiplayer versus a mutant army, a single player campaign, and a training feature where you can play with all the available weapons and toys. With weeks to go until the 2018 Game Developers Conference, organizers are pleased to announce the eight winners of the Best in Play award program for exhibitors in the three-day GDC Play 2018 event, which helps emerging developers to show their games at GDC. Being honored as a winner is kind of a big deal, because -- as part of the Best in Play award program -- all GDC Play exhibitors were judged on their in-development or complete games by a panel of veteran GDC organizers. During Microsoft’s quarterly financial conference call, Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella and Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood talked about the performance of the Xbox and gaming business. Nadella started the call by mentioning that Xbox is reaching new customers with new offers. He explained that the Xbox One X was the top-selling premium console in the Holiday season in the United States (which means that Microsoft’s new console beat the PS4 Pro), paired with “strong sales” of the Xbox One S. He also pledged that Microsoft will “continue to innovate in consoles to attract high-value gamers” who want immersive 4K experiences, to build a broader subscription service with Game Pass and to extend its gaming services to all devices in the customers’ lives across the console, PC, and mobile.
