“Crisis on Infinite Earths” Tie-In Comic Introduces the Arrowverse’s Beppo the Super-Monkey
By Russ Burlingame - December 15, 2019 12:17 pm EST Share 0 Comments 0 One of the great things about comics is that wild ideas that might not translate especially well to film can still look cool and believable. One example? The Arrowverse has now seen the introduction of Beppo the Super-Monkey, thanks to the Crisis On Infinite Earths 100-Page Giant #1, which is out today at Walmart stores and will hit the direct market in January. The character makes a cameo appearance on the final page of a backup story written by Arrow's Marc Guggenheim and original Crisis on Infinite Earths comic writer Marv Wolfman, with art by Tom Grummett, along with a number of alternate-universe Supermen. That may suggest that Beppo, in the Arrowverse context, is a version of Superman from an alternate Earth where anthropomorphic animals are the height of evolution, or it could just be that he has tagged along with a friend. There is, after all, another character in the same splash … [Read more...] about “Crisis on Infinite Earths” Tie-In Comic Introduces the Arrowverse’s Beppo the Super-Monkey
The origins of the walking simulator
If there's a genre of videogames today that diversifies players like no other, it's the walking simulator. Many examples have found favour, especially at Eurogamer, with Firewatch and, latterly, Virginia, both well-received. Yet for every praiseworthy voice, there are critics, keen to expose this style of game for being over-hyped, underwhelming and, frankly, boring. Like so much else in games, the walking simulator is not a new phenomenon, and its roots can be traced back to the 1980s. In a decade that saw its fair share of innovation, mixed with rampant cloning and bandwagon-jumping, freelance developer (ie bedroom coder) Graham Relf came up with the idea of a purely explorative game, a procedurally-generated terrain and countless locations to visit and search. Explorer had a suitably apt title but, despite its technological achievement, it was met with indifference in the gaming press of the time. However, Explorer's, and its author's, story began 15 or so years earlier. … [Read more...] about The origins of the walking simulator
Star Trek Just Launched Its First Comics and Video Games Crossover
By Jamie Lovett - October 9, 2018 04:50 pm EDT Share 1 Comments 1 Star Trek Online’s latest new content Age of Discovery is now live, but this is more than just a major updated for the MMORPG. It also marks a major milestone for the Star Trek franchise. Age of Discovery begins in the year 2256, just after the Battle at the Binary Stars. The new expansion pits players again J’Ula, the matriarch of House Mo’Kai and sister of T’Kuvma, the Klingon religious leader who tried to unite the Klingon Empire against the Federation in the first season of Star Trek: Discovery. But this isn’t the first time that Star Trek: Discovery fans have met J’Ula. She was featured in IDW Publishing’s first Star Trek: Discovery comic book series The Light of Kahless, making Age of Discovery a continuation of that story and the first major crossover between Star Trek comics and Star Trek Online. To mark this momentous occasion, ComicBook.com … [Read more...] about Star Trek Just Launched Its First Comics and Video Games Crossover
Why you shouldn’t ignore Uncharted 4’s multiplayer
I absolutely loved The Last of Us. Joel and Ellie's journey from the quarantine zones of Boston to that ending in Utah ranks as one of my favourite video game tales of all time, and I'm not ashamed to admit to feeling a lump in my throat on a couple of occasions; such was the power of its storytelling. It more than earned the 10 out of 10 (reads like an Essential) that Oli awarded it back in 2013 and his review, in my eyes, is spot on - except for one major omission; he only paid lip-service to the multiplayer. This isn't really Oli's fault. When it comes to Naughty Dog, the multiplayer portions of their titles have always taken a back seat to the cinematic spectacle of their campaigns. The trouble is that my editor, and everyone else it seems, missed out on one of the best console-exclusive multiplayer games I've ever played. Factions, as The Last of Us' multiplayer mode is known, is a rare breed of tacked-on multiplayer that's both original and innovative. Rather than half-heartedly … [Read more...] about Why you shouldn’t ignore Uncharted 4’s multiplayer
