For 1080p PC gaming, there are two graphics cards that immediately stand out: Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1060 and AMD's Radeon RX 580. These popular graphics cards sit in the price versus performance sweet spot, often boasting better than console-quality graphics at double the frame-rate for just a few hundred dollars. Perhaps unsurprisingly, while a lot of PC gaming coverage focuses on high-end machines and components, it's affordable mid-range cards that are by far the most widely used. In fact, according to a recent Steam Hardware Survey, more than twelve per cent of gamers reported using a GTX 1060, compared to just over one per cent using a top-end GTX 1080 Ti. To help you decide between these two 1080p heroes, we'll take a look at how each card performs in nine different games, including modern titles like Battlefield 1, Assassin's Creed: Unity and Ghost Recon Wildlands. Of course, we'll also look at some classic titles like Crysis 3! While benchmarks are helpful, they're not the full … [Read more...] about GeForce GTX 1060 vs Radeon RX 580: which is best for 1080p gaming?
Why pc gaming is better than console
It’s now been roughly two months since Vermintide 2 launched on PC, and three weeks since developers Fatshark confirmed it’s shifted a million copies - a huge feat for most games on our platform, let alone by an indie developer, and so quickly. We checked in with lead designer Victor Magnuson and producer Robert Bäckström to talk about how their hard-won community has received the sequel and their plans for its ongoing support, as well as co-op gaming more broadly. Vermintide was successful, and we felt that this game was better than the original - there’s a lot more to it, and we had already built a community, all that work had been done. So we were hoping that we would do better, but this is way past expectations, of course! What explains that success? … [Read more...] about Vermintide 2 is “not 100% there, but closing in” on the difficulty sweet spot
L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files is the best VR game I have ever played. More than that, it is one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. Defying the odds, it feels like a bespoke virtual reality game, rather than a decade-old console title bent and hammered into a VR mould. Should you get the chance to play it yourself, you will quickly come to understand why it has cast its spell so effectively over me. Related: the best VR games on PC. I spent some time with the game at Rockstar’s offices back in November, but have finally had chance to play the whole game now. As soon as the opening seconds of the “Armed and Dangerous” case began I fell in love with it all over again. Picture the scene: I am outside Westlake Savings & Loans, and the building is currently suffering at the hands of half-a-dozen robbers. Bullets zing off car fenders and thud against tarmac. One criminal is crouched behind a car on the roadside, blocking my advance into the … [Read more...] about L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files is evidence that VR can make games even better

Some thoughts on why the sale momentum has not slowed can be found in the original article below. The Nintendo Switch has now set records in the United States and Japan as the fastest-selling console in those two respective markets, beating even the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii in terms of early adoption. So what went so right? How did a system with such an unconventional idea behind it get so big, so fast? Here are just a few of the reasons, with some obvious and others a bit more obscure. Nintendo did just about everything right, even if those tricks may not have worked for anyone else. Let’s dig in! It has no competition The Nintendo Switch is neither just a handheld nor just a home console. It’s both — and it’s the flagship system for Nintendo’s biggest games.
