The Turbografx Mini and PC Engine Mini are coming early next year, which is a big cause for celebration. Why pc gaming is better than console
Epic says that for its store to compete with Steam, it needs games Steam doesn't have. To that end, the Fortnite megacorp has been making year-long Epic Games Store exclusivity deals, most recently with The Outer Worlds and Control. That has predictably irritated many PC gamers who are used to Steam and don't want to switch to a different launcher for different games. (Though that's already commonplace on account of Origin, Battle.net, and so on.)But is Epic's strategy more than just an inconvenience? Is it actually detrimental to PC gaming as a whole? That's the topic of our mid-week PCG Q&A. Our answers are below, and feel free to add yours in the comments (while sticking to our commenting rules).Samuel Roberts: Who is it better for? I don't actively think they're bad, nor does the idea of them keep me up at night. I even speculate if Epic's approach has allowed previously console-only games to make the leap to PC, as is the case with the Quantic Dream games and Journey … [Read more...] about Are store exclusives bad for PC gaming?
As a PC player who owns a PlayStation 4, the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 puts me in a very light bind. PC is my format of choice for GTA Online, and everyone I play multiplayer games with lives on Steam—but next month, when Red Dead Online arrives on PS4, I'm too intrigued about the multiplayer mode to wait for a possible port. Everyone I know will be playing it then. If Red Dead 2 does eventually come to PC, though, and if it's anything like GTA 5, it'll probably be the best-looking version by miles. It's a slightly annoying but familiar trade-off: play it now, or wait for the game at its best.Console ports arriving later on PC is not a new thing, and Rockstar almost always takes its time to bring a PC edition across. Going as far back as GTA 3, that arrived about seven months after the PS2 version in 2002. GTA 5, of course, arrived well over a year after the original console release. A couple of things make me think differently about the gaps between console and PC … [Read more...] about Waiting for PC versions of console games is somehow harder in 2018
Stealth games are usually fraught with self-serious violence. Yes, you can see a guy crap himself in just about every Metal Gear Solid, but that’s usually between all the murder you can see and do. The genre has never asked itself if it would be better suited by some asshole goose rather than some gravelly asshole. This all changed with Untitled Goose Game, a stealth game that is initially as hilarious as it sounds. Other than that time Old Snake rudely vomited all over the floor inside Outer Haven in Metal Gear Solid 4, stealth heroes usually leave the environment as pristine as possible. Get in, get out, and be as much like a ghost as possible. The goose in Untitled Goose Game is not as polite. Let me not mince words: the goose is total dick. Untitled Goose Game Preview: Goofy Goose And that dickishness is the core of this game. It drops you into a small level and gives you a checklist of mischievous tasks to complete like stealing the gardener’s keys, dragging his rake … [Read more...] about Untitled Goose Game Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things [Preview]
