Even though CD Projekt Red both develops and self-publishes most of their own games, it’s pretty typical to see them team up with various publishers to help distribute their games in various regions. As was announced today, they’ll be continuing this practice with their upcoming first-person RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red revealed today that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will serve as the distributor of Cyberpunk 2077 in the North American region today, a move that isn’t surprising whatsoever. Last year, Hitman developer Io Interactive announced that it would be going fully independent. Hitman publisher Square Enix had been looking to sell off the developer as it aimed to focus resources on key franchises and studios as well as player satisfaction. But in the process of these negotiations, Io was able to secure full control of the Hitman IP, meaning that the series would continue and that the developer would be free to do what it wants with it. In a press release today, Io Interactive has now announced that it has entered a new agreement for the Hitman series with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the publisher behind the Batman: Arkham and Mortal Kombat games. Warner Bros. is now the worldwide publishing and distribution partner for the Hitman games, explains the announcement. Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment and IO Interactive have announced a worldwide publishing and distributing agreement for Hitman. The episodic stealth action game was previously published by Square Enix. It contained six episodes in total, which were originally released on a monthly basis starting from March 2016 to October 2016. The complete first season was finally released in January 2017. According to the press release, the first and only confirmed Hitman game to be published by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment will be the upcoming Hitman: Definitive Edition. It will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One on May 15th, 2018. The game's Definitive Edition will feature new in-game disguises for Agent 47 inspired by classic IO Interactive titles such as Freedom Fighters, Kane & Lynch, and Mini Ninjas, with the purpose of celebrating the Danish studio's 20th anniversary. IO Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment are teaming up to bring Hitman back to retail. The Danish developer, which has been an independent studio since being dropped by Square Enix, and the publisher of Mortal Kombat announced a deal today to release Hitman: Definitive Edition in May for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Newsbrief: Electronic Arts has opened up its once-exclusive Origin Access program to at least one other major game publisher with the addition of six games published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to the program. Typically, Origin Access only hosts games published by Electronic Arts and, in some cases, independent developers but the inclusion of six Batman games marks the first time games released by another major publisher have been brought into the fold. Origin Access is nested under EA's Origin digital game platform and grants players unlimited access to any title in Access' library for the duration of their subscription. Previously, that library of roughly 75 games was made up almost entirely of EA-published titles.
