Best Shots review – Black Widow: The Ties That Bind is emotionally devastating

· February 26, 2021 ·

Natasha Romanoff finds out first-hand if it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, as Kelly Thompson and Elena Casagrande’s emotionally devastating first arc on Black Widow ends with #5. Charting a course from tragedy to marital bliss and back again, Thompson and Casagrande have crafted a tight and complete mystery in ' The Ties That Bind ,' just in time to thrust under the noses of anyone whose interest in the character is piqued by the eternally-delayed movie. Black Widow #1 - #5 credits Written by Kelly Thompson The Black Widow has disappeared. Believing herself to be an architect in San Francisco, Natasha's got a kick-ass motorbike, a loving fiancé, and an adorable baby son. This is the prison her greatest enemies have built for her to ensure that she stays out of their way for good. But of course, what kind of punishment is that? Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Outbreak mode is both great fun and a blueprint for the future

· March 3, 2021 ·

Call of Duty has never offered a compelling reason to play Zombies solo. Here is a mode where you fight an ultimately futile campaign against hordes of rotting corpses (and some not-so-rotting monsters if it’s a weirder year) which works best when used as a backdrop to messing around with mates. Try to push your score as high as possible on your own, and you’re greeted with little more than a grind in elaborate dungeons where you'll know the end as soon as you begin. While increasingly obtuse lore or surprising A-Listers have been used as incentive in the past, there’s never been a moment since the original Zombies mode in World at War where I actually wanted to return regularly. Ural in for a treat Perhaps that’s because the recently launched Outbreak seems to flip every convention of the mode it’s ostensibly part of. In normal Zombies, you start in a small location and slowly open up new areas. In Outbreak, you’re plonked in the middle of a random, sizable map in the Ural … [Read more...] about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Outbreak mode is both great fun and a blueprint for the future

Wrong Turn Remake Director Reveals Scene That Landed NC-17 Rating

· March 2, 2021 ·

Wrong Turn got a very different remake this year--moving away from cannibal hillbillies to focus on a more civilized people who live off-the-grid in the Appalachian mountains called The Foundation. However, there was one scene cut from the movie that landed it the infamous NC-17 rating. During the Wrong Turn audio commentary from director Mike P. Nelson, he explained the exact moment where the MPAA slapped the naughty rating on it. "[The] execution scene with Adam here was the moment in the movie in which we got an NC-17 from the MPAA," Nelson explained during the movie. The scene in question features travelling city-boy Adam about to be executed in a bizarre court of law by The Foundation after Adam is found guilty of murdering another member of the hermit tribe. "Originally, this scene played straight through, in which you saw Adam get his head bashed in, and it did not cut away, like it's going to do there," Nelson continued. "It keeps going and going, and you see his head … [Read more...] about Wrong Turn Remake Director Reveals Scene That Landed NC-17 Rating

Torchlight 3’s a bit of a mess but I have faith

· June 18, 2020 ·

I hope they change the Torchlight 3 map. That seems like sort of a sulky, entitled thing to say, and it probably is, but I'm a massive fan of fantasy maps and maps in general, and I think Torchlight 3's current map does it no favours. When you load up the game you get a screen with a lovely map - scattered land masses and age-stained ink. But in the game the map you actually use is the linear path from a thousand free-to-play puzzlers. The line muddles along like something out of Candyland and the places you visit are separated from the surface of the map somehow - it's more like a selection of novelty cakes than a map. Nothing wrong with free-to-play puzzlers at all! But this map seems to be a glaring reminder of the journey Torchlight 3 has taken to its current paid early access release on Steam. Torchlight 3 started as a free-to-play affair, I gather. And the map tells you that. It promises stuff to do and progression that goes on forever, content without much context. The places … [Read more...] about Torchlight 3’s a bit of a mess but I have faith
