Sword Art Online is a marketing juggernaut that began in 2009 as a light novel series and has since expanded its roots to include a manga, anime, and video game adaptations. When it comes to the video game releases, the series has had its share of notable titles, such as Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment, and others that were not so well received (see: Accel World VS Sword Art Online Review). However, the consensus is that the series can stand on its own in the video game market and bring fans a nice dose of their Sword Art Online cravings. In order to address Sword Art Online’s multiple virtual game arenas, Bandai Namco has decided to bring in developer DIMPS to work a popular story arc, Gun Gale Online (GGO) with Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. Yes, that means bringing the fantasy action RPG to a new genre: Third Person Shooter. The core gameplay of what fans are used to from the Sword Art Online series has been completely revamped to appeal to this genre … [Read more...] about Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet Review — Do You Feel Lucky, Punk?

2018 is a particularly big year for anime games. A ton of anime-inspired titles are on the way to various platforms this year, from Dragon Ball FighterZ and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth--both of which are already available--to My Hero Academia: One's Justice and the ambitious, open-world One Piece game, Grand Cruise. The most recent is Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, Bandai Namco's latest adaptation of the popular anime and manga series, which arrived on PC and consoles on February 23. Unlike previous Sword Art Online games, Fatal Bullet takes place within the world of Gun Gale Online (or GGO), the shooter/MMO that serves as the setting for the first arc of Sword Art Online's second season. Fittingly, Fatal Bullet plays out like a third-person shooter rather than a typical fantasy RPG, emphasizing cover and twitchy gunplay over swords and magic. And while the game doesn't follow the same story arc from the anime directly, many of SAO's most recognizable characters do make an appearance … [Read more...] about Here’s What The New Sword Art Online Game Is Like
Moving to the third-person shooter genre may have seemed like a risk for Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, but the latest trailer shows it is likely a risk worth taking. The epic trailer showcases a lot of the game, navigating between flashes of story-driven cinematic scenes and gameplay. And though it may not be the first trailer we’ve seen for the game, it will definitely get the blood pumping. The trailer, seen below, almost seems like one for a blockbuster movie. First describing the cataclysmic state of the world, the narration switches over to Japanese dubbed audio. We see scenes with familiar faces — Asuna, Sinon, Kirito, to name a few — and a sampling of what the gunplay and movement looks like. Of course, an impressive new launch trailer isn’t the only news coming out about Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet around launch. A few days ago it was revealed that Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment would come as a pre-order bonus to those … [Read more...] about Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet’s Fires Off an Action-Packed Launch Trailer
The latest in a series of tie-in games based on Sword Art Online (a popular novel/anime series about a brooding teen’s adventures in a VR MMO), Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet has rolled out onto PC today, worldwide and alongside the console version. Based on the second season of the anime, which traded up its sword & sorcery MMO setting for an action-oriented sci-fi game, Fatal Bullet promises light party-based JRPG adventuring paired with a shooter-style combat engine not entirely unlike Mass Effect. Released in parallel with its console version, and developed by Dimps (the team behind Dragonball Xenoverse and a thousand other decent licensed titles) Fatal Bullet puts you in the shoes of a hand-made protagonist, playing out a story that runs roughly parallel to the events of the anime series. Despite the MMO theming, the game is primarily a solo RPG, but offers the option to go online to play 4v4 team deathmatch against real human players, or co-op boss fights in … [Read more...] about Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet launches on PC today
