It’s hard to believe that The Walking Dead season 8 is a thing of the past, and we’ll soon be onto The Walking Dead season 9 - mainly because we’ve had to endure so many episodes where so little happens. With the “all-out war” over at last (or is it, really?) the upcoming season promises happier times for Rick and co., far from the clutches of the undead. Ha, who am I kidding? This is The Walking Dead! The grimmest option is typically the one the writers opt for! But, nevertheless, we can remain hopeful that the once-great series may return to its former glory, especially as season 9 will essentially be a soft reboot, or, as former showrunner Scott Gimple calls it a “new show” with “a new narrative”. It’s no surprise Gimple used that word: he’s passing on the showrunner baton to long-time writer Angela Kang, who will now steer the series into its next era. So, now that we’ve had our first glimpse at the season in … [Read more...] about The Walking Dead season 9 release date, cast, trailer and everything we know so far
Walking dead episode 9
The Walking Dead season 9 has already gone down a puzzling route by announcing Rick will be leaving the show after only six episodes, but things are about to get more head-scratching (or should that be head-rubbing?). That’s because joining Andrew Lincoln during his last hurrah will be Jon Bernthal. That’s right: Shane is back for one last time.According to TV Line, Shane is back for just the one episode in The Walking Dead season 9. Which can surely mean only one thing: Rick’s biting the dust, right? Let’s look at some of the ways Shane could (realistically) return.Rick's death hallucinationShane already showed up post-being stabbed in the chest during a Rick hallucination in season 3. The Walking Dead season 9 can go one better by killing off Rick and having one brief reunion between Shane and Rick. Maybe we’ll finally find out who Judith’s real dad is?Shane returns as a walkerUnlikely, but you never know. Seeing the gross, gruesome face of Shane … [Read more...] about Rick’s BFF-turned-baddie Shane is returning in The Walking Dead season 9 – but how?
Welp. The Walking Dead season 9 is now almost definitely going down the path less travelled: Rick Grimes is leaving. Don’t take my word for it, take the word of the hastily-deleted Instagram post of one of the show’s directors. He not only posted a heartfelt tribute to Andrew Lincoln, but also gave a few tantalising comments on the show’s future without their main man.Michael Satrazemis, who has directed over a dozen episodes of the show, took to social media to essentially put the final nail in the coffin when it comes to those Rick rumours. (H/T Reddit)While much of it is (rightly) a series of glowing comments to Andrew Lincoln, therein lies a couple of lines that tease what to expect from The Walking Dead season 9.Of course, someone working on the show is going to say it’s “great” but you have reason to believe that heading off in a completely new direction might do absolute wonders for a show that has been shambling along for a couple of years … [Read more...] about “It will be different but it will still be great” – The Walking Dead season 9 director outlines what to expect from a show without Rick
Goodbyes are never easy, but when a character has been on your screens for nigh-on a decade, it’s especially hard. The Walking Dead season 9 will reportedly be Andrew Lincoln’s (AKA, Rick Grimes) final season, but the show has no plans to finish just yet. While no concrete details have come out of Collider’s report stating Lincoln is finished with The Walking Dead, there are a few interesting tidbits. Namely, Norman Reedus is apparently taking over as lead; as an original TV character, Daryl Dixon as lead will pull the series even further away from the comics than ever before – which can only be a good thing. But will Rick bite the bullet (or bite the bite, in this case)? Lincoln is rumoured to only be in six out of the 16 episodes in the final season, indicating either a shock early exit or Rick might be flitting in and out of the season – almost as a backdoor pilot for a Rick-less show – before saying his goodbyes. My best guess is a happy ending for … [Read more...] about Rick will reportedly leave during The Walking Dead season 9 (with Daryl becoming the lead)
I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that The Walking Dead season 8 felt like the final, gasping breath of a show on its last legs. Season 9, however, isn’t too far away. With all that went down in the finale, there’s plenty of scope for change and – more importantly – improvement. While improvement is subjective, change is definitely a-coming. Outgoing showrunner Scott Gimple has talked openly about season 9 being a “new show” with a “new narrative”. A clean slate may be the best thing for the show, and there are plenty of ways to move forward from there. Here are some of them: 8 ways The Walking Dead season 9 can fix the show. Ditch the comic book storylines If you knew exactly how The Walking Dead season 8 finale would play out, then there’s a good chance you’ve read the comics. Taking and adapting the source material can work (see Game of Thrones), but mixing it up a little can work even better … [Read more...] about 8 ways The Walking Dead season 9 can fix the show
