A new cheat has been discovered for 1994 Super Nintendo game Super Punch-Out , allowing two players to duke it out in PVP mode. Discovered by the Twitter account Unlisted Cheats , which specialises in unearthing previously unknown cheats for classic games, the two-player mode consists of two newly-discovered cheat inputs. As Unlisted Cheats explains, only two cheats were previously known for the game, a sound test and a mode that allowed Japanese name input. Each cheat requires a combination of just two buttons. The account found a new cheat which would put the player in a "free play" kind of mode, allowing them to select which of the game's rivals they want to face. If this mode is selected, a second combination of buttons will allow the second gamepad to control the rival character normally controlled by the CPU. While doing some request work, casually found some new cheats in Super Punch-out for SNES. All secret codes in this game uses two-button combinations. Two of them … [Read more...] about Super Punch-Out’s Secret Two-Player Mode Discovered After 28 Years

Nightdive sheds light on why Blade Runner Enhanced Edition was such a disaster
Audio player loading… I was heartbroken by the state that Nightdive's Blade Runner Enhanced Edition released in (opens in new tab) . As someone with long, fond memories of sitting at my dad's enormous grey Fujitsu PC and running around the original's rain-slick LA streets, I was excited for the surefire nostalgia hit that I thought Nightdive's remaster would be. Well, the rest is history. The smudgy upscaling, unnatural framerate, and a litany of new bugs combined to make sure the remaster turned out a worse experience than the original. Those of us who were looking forward to stepping into Ray McCoy's gumshoes were sorely disappointed. But at least now we know why. A new interview from PCGamesN (opens in new tab) with Nightdive's Larry Kuperman and Dimitris Giannakis—the company's director of business development and lead producer on Blade Runner Enhanced Edition, respectively—sheds some light on the "perfect storm" the project faced before it was released. … [Read more...] about Nightdive sheds light on why Blade Runner Enhanced Edition was such a disaster
Destiny 2 fans jump on leak as evidence that a new ‘poison’ subclass coming
Audio player loading… Be prepared to take this with a sizable pinch of whatever passes for salt in the Destiny 2 universe, but it appears an artist at Bungie may have inadvertently given a glimpse of the game's next subclass. The leak came in the form of a clip allegedly posted to an Artstation account, as first reported by DestinyTwoLeaks on Twitter. I can't confirm the provenance because the linked post has been pulled, but—this being the internet—the clip is still easy enough to find. I've embedded it at the top. At first glance, it just shows a Titan performing the 'Swing of the Scythe' finisher, which is available as part of the current season pass. However, cast your eyes down to the bottom left and things get more interesting. The HUD elements are all green, which doesn't tally with any current subclass in the game. Most intriguing, the super icon (ie your ult) is also new. Finally, the character has three melee charges available, which isn't possible with any … [Read more...] about Destiny 2 fans jump on leak as evidence that a new ‘poison’ subclass coming
Subnautica studio will reveal its new sci-fi strategy game at Gamescom
Audio player loading… In February, Krafton announced that Subnautica studio Unknown Worlds, which it had acquired in October 2021, was working on a new project that was not Subnautica 3. Instead, it's a " turn-based strategy game (opens in new tab) set in a sci-fi world"—quite a departure from the first-person survival games that put Unknown Worlds on the map. Later this month at Gamescom, we'll finally get a look at what it's all about: Unknown Worlds co-founder Charlie Cleveland will formally unveil the new game during the Opening Night Live showcase. The presence of Unknown Worlds' new thing was initially revealed on Twitter by Master of All Gaming Ceremonies Geoff Keighley, but the tweet contained an extremely unfortunate spelling error (opens in new tab) that led to a completely different (and very not safe-for-work) Twitter account. Fortunately, Krafton also confirmed the Gamescom appearance of Unknown Worlds in a separate statement of its own, saying that … [Read more...] about Subnautica studio will reveal its new sci-fi strategy game at Gamescom
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 now the highest-grossing videogame movie ever in the US
Audio player loading… Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is now the highest-grossing domestic videogame movie ever made—making $147 million in the US to just tip the $146 million of the original. The domestic qualifier is necessary because, while the blue blur's sequel has made $287.8 million globally ( thanks, Deadline (opens in new tab) ), that's still some way off World of Warcraft's $439 million haul. The film sees Sonic and Tails looking for the Master Emerald, with Idris Elba's Knuckles and Jim Carrey's Dr Robotnik in hot pursuit. Interestingly enough the film's release coincided with Carrey announcing his intention to retire from acting—Sonic 3 was confirmed by distributor Paramount in February, so with these kinds of numbers Carrey's resolve shall doubtless be tested with an extremely large cheque. Ben Schwartz, Sonic's voice actor in the movies, tweeted to celebrate the numbers exceeding the first movie: #SonicMovie2 has officially passed the domestic box office … [Read more...] about Sonic the Hedgehog 2 now the highest-grossing videogame movie ever in the US
The Stanley Parable developers highlight its new ultra deluxe accessibility options
Audio player loading… The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe has finally launched, remaking the meta-filled office adventure with a modern facelift and important new features like an in-world dialogue skipping button and a bucket of uncertain emotional value. Developers Crows Crows Crows did add some less satirical updates too though, like an exhaustive list of new accessibility features that it broke down on Twitter. "It’s important to us that The Stanley Parable can be enjoyed by as many people as possible," the Crows Crows Crows developers said . "That's why we introduced many new accessibility settings and quality-of-life features to the Ultra Deluxe edition." There’s a moment in the game where you’re choosing between a red and a blue door. Certain vision impairments make it difficult to distinguish these colors, so we added a toggle that adds unmistakable text to the doors. pic.twitter.com/SJQmG2cYhp May 4, 2022 See more Some of the accessibility options … [Read more...] about The Stanley Parable developers highlight its new ultra deluxe accessibility options
Hideo Kojima shoots down Sony buyout rumor started by Hideo Kojima
Audio player loading… Hideo Kojima has denied a rumor that Sony is preparing to acquire Kojima Productions (opens in new tab) , saying that the whole thing is a "misunderstanding" started by a tweet posted by, uh, Hideo Kojima. The buzz began earlier this week when, as noted by GamesRadar (opens in new tab) , Sony expanded the banner image on the PlayStation Studios website (opens in new tab) , a splice-up of iconic Sony videogame characters including Kratos, Aloy, and Deacon, to include Sam Porter Bridges from Death Stranding. Then, yesterday, Kojima himself tweeted the same image, complete with the PlayStation Studios logo: pic.twitter.com/T0LINRiH4G April 15, 2022 See more Predictably, a good number of followers on Twitter immediately seized upon the tweet as confirmation that Kojima Productions was about to become the next big acquisition. It's a reasonable assumption, really: The Death Stranding studio is no Activision Blizzard, but making … [Read more...] about Hideo Kojima shoots down Sony buyout rumor started by Hideo Kojima
Battalion 1944 studio splits with Square Enix, announces free Legacy edition coming to Steam
Audio player loading… Battalion 1944 (opens in new tab) launched into early access in 2018 as a throwback to the early days of the Call of Duty games. There were some troubles, predictable for an early access game, but it seemed like a very strong start (opens in new tab) for a niche multiplayer FPS. Square Enix, which had published Battalion 1944 under its indie-focused Square Enix Collective, apparently thought so too: It acquired a 20% stake (opens in new tab) in developer Bulkhead in November 2018. Unfortunately, neither the game nor the relationship between Bulkhead and Square Enix worked out quite as hoped. Battalion 1944's average concurrent player count has been stuck in single-digits since mid-2020, a console release that was promised in a 2016 Kickstarter never happened, and today Bulkhead announced that it has "formally ended" its relationship with Square Enix. An announcement about @PlayBattalion pic.twitter.com/pvFQJx8ibz August 9, 2022 See … [Read more...] about Battalion 1944 studio splits with Square Enix, announces free Legacy edition coming to Steam

FFXIV 6.X Story Will Revolve Around The Thirteenth Shard
FFXIV's entire 6.X storyline will center around the thirteenth shard, as confirmed by Naoki Yoshida. Players have guessed as much since 6.1, Newfound Adventure, teased the appearance of a mysterious voidsent, but Yoshida's interview confirms that the 6.X arc will focus on what happened to the thirteenth shard, as well as the memories of feelings of those who were once human, but are now monsters. Yoshi-P says in a new Famitsu interview that FFXIV Patch 6.2 and the rest of the 6.X patches will revolve around the Thirteenth Shard in its story. pic.twitter.com/SVz7Yj0IQK — ☆オードリーAudrey☆ (@aitaikimochi) August 9, 2022 The thirteenth shard is the first word the Ascians tried to rejoin, but unfortunately, through their efforts, everybody in that world became voidsents. Yoshida says in an Famitsu interview, with translation by Twitter user Audrey (@ aitaikimochi ), "Patch 6.1 asks…'since we have already traversed to the world of the First, what would the other shards look like?" … [Read more...] about FFXIV 6.X Story Will Revolve Around The Thirteenth Shard
