Overwatch designer dispels myths about matchmaking and skill rating changes
Ahead of Overwatch getting a 'looking for group' feature that will let you choose the types of players you team up with, Blizzard principal designer Scott Mercer has taken to the game's forums to bust a few myths about how matchmaking works with groups, and how playing in a group affects changes to your skill rating (SR) when you win or lose.Mercer said that there was "reluctance from the community when it comes to grouping", partly down to a few common "misconceptions". The one that comes up most often, he said, is that you gain less SR for winning when you're playing as a group, and lose more SR when you're defeated. That is flat out wrong: your group status has zero impact on SR changes, Mercer explained."It doesn’t matter if you’re solo, grouped with one other person, or in a full group of six. If you are a 2800 SR player grouped with five other 2800 SR players, the SR change after a win or loss is the exact same as if you played the game solo with five other solo 2800 … [Read more...] about Overwatch designer dispels myths about matchmaking and skill rating changes
Fortnite’s Pro-Am tournament embraced a new type of video game god
There are few arenas where NBA star and former Indiana Pacers captain Paul George isn’t the person everyone wants to flock around. Epic Games’ Fortnite Pro-Am tournament is one of those rare places. George, who tells Polygon it felt “amazing to be competing” in the tournament, wasn’t the main draw. Neither were hip-hop artists Lil Yachty or Vince Staples. Even actors like Joel McHale and John Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) are second-class. McHale, Heder, George and Staples may have diehard fans outside of Fortnite‘s gigantic empire, swallowing everything in its distance, but within the empire, there are only a couple of heroes. And they are gods. Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Ali ‘Myth’ Kabbani, Alastair “Ali-A” Aiken and a few other notable streamers are Fortnite‘s slightly more awkward, equally charming version of Ringo, Paul, John and George, ready to stand in the spotlight before their adorning fans and ride the … [Read more...] about Fortnite’s Pro-Am tournament embraced a new type of video game god
Pokemon GO Community Event Will Star Bulbasaur
The next community day for Pokemon GO will take place on March 25 and it has been announced which Pokemon will be featured for the event. That Pokemon is none other than the Gen 1 Grass-type starter, Bulbasaur. Pokemon GO community days, for those who have not taken part, allow players to catch certain Pokemon that have moves in their arsenal that aren’t normally in their repertoire of skills. There is only a three hour time frame to be able to catch these Pokemon, meaning players will need to plan accordingly to make sure they are able take part in these events. The most recent community day took place over this past weekend and featured Dratini. While there was no mention of what exclusive moves the Community Day specific Bulbasaurs will have, it will more than likely be revealed closer to March 25. The event may also bring with it higher chances at catching shiny versions of Bulbasaur and all its evolutions, as there was with the previous Community Days that featured Pikachu … [Read more...] about Pokemon GO Community Event Will Star Bulbasaur
