PS4 System Update 8.00 Adds New PS5-Centric Features, But Breaks Friend Lists

· October 15, 2020 ·

Sony has released PS4 firmware update 8.00 , which adds updates to party and messages, new free avatars, simplified parental controls, and enhanced two-step authentication that finally allows the use of apps. However, users have reported issues after installing the update, including one that blocks access to friends lists (and at the time of this writing, PSN is down ). After the update, party and message functions will be linked together more tightly, and you'll be able to use the same groups of players for party voice chats and message exchanges, instead of having different groups set up across the two apps. This will also be a cross-gen feature, as you'll be able to send messages to PS4 groups even if you are on PS5 . New avatars have also been added, with players able to customize themselves with assets from Bloodborne , Journey , Ghost of Tsushima , God of War , The Last of Us Part II , The Last of Us Remastered , Uncharted 4: A Thief's End , and more. New on ComiXology Unlimited (March 2021): All the comics and manga arriving

· March 2, 2021 ·

There is a plethora of comic books coming to Amazon's ComiXology Unlimited digital comics reading service in march - Marvel, DC, Image Comics, IDW Publishing, Boom! Studios, and more… but one big thing stands out. Vertigo. The complete runs of the original Hellblazer (300 issues!), Preacher (66 issues!), and Lucifer series (75 issues!) have been added to ComiXology Unlimited this month. In addition, over 200 issues of various Swamp Thing series have also been added. No specific reason has been given for this Vertigo-centric comics dump, but in some cases, it's best not to complain and just start reading (or re-reading, as the case may be). Some decidedly un-Vertigo fare being added as well this month is a heaping helping of Disney cartoon tales. Several collections have been added of Mickey House, Donald Duck, Donald and Mickey, Uncle Scrooge, and DuckTales. Staying on that anthropomorphic tip, there's also Snoopy: Beagle of Mars and six volumes of Garfield arriving this … [Read more...] about New on ComiXology Unlimited (March 2021): All the comics and manga arriving

PSVR showcases 6 new games with skiing action, frozen zombies, and more

· March 3, 2021 ·

We're still waiting to learn more about the PSVR PS5 version, but we just got a half dozen new games to look forward to for the one we already have. The PlayStation Blog just finished with a day-long PSVR Spotlight, showcasing six games headed to Sony's virtual reality headsets with new trailers and posts from the developers themselves. We already got a look at one of the titles with Doom 3 VR Edition coming to PSVR later this month , but here's everything Sony announced in the showcase. Doom 3: VR Edition Release date: March 29 Before we ripped and tore in the new Doom games, we RIP'ed in terror in Doom 3 - and now the horror is even more inescapable in VR. Doom 3 VR Edition is a full conversion of the original game and its two expansions to VR, making use of the Aim controller for more natural weapons handling (and yes, they do have attached flashlights now) while adding in some handy new features like 180 degree quick turns to give you slightly better … [Read more...] about PSVR showcases 6 new games with skiing action, frozen zombies, and more

No Man’s Sky: Origins introduces Sandworms, millions of new worlds, and a weirder universe than ever before to explore

· September 23, 2020 ·

No Man's Sky: Origins is set to go live today. It's perhaps the most impactful expansion the space sim has enjoyed since its launch, introducing a whole host of changes to the underlying procedural generation in an effort to breathe new life to its universe. Speaking of new life, there's one new creature arriving that many of you have been asking after for quite some time now: the Sandworm. The Sandworm infamously appeared in the 2013 reveal trailer , although it never materialised in the final game. Players spent years hunting it across a procedurally generated universe, with No Man's Sky director Sean Murray eventually confirming that the creature never made it to the live server shard because fleeing it was no fun at all. So, why the change of heart? "You know, we showed that in a trailer, like, three or four years before No Man's Sky came out. We were so naive then – so, so naive," says Murray. The No Man's Sky Sandworm reemerges I get the sense that Murray would love … [Read more...] about No Man’s Sky: Origins introduces Sandworms, millions of new worlds, and a weirder universe than ever before to explore

No Man’s Sky will have multiplayer crossplay when it drops on Xbox Game Pass

· June 10, 2020 ·

No Man's Sky is adding cross-platform multiplayer starting June 11, the same day the title goes live on Xbox and PC Game Pass. "Do you have a friend on another gaming system with whom you’ve always wanted to explore the great unknown? A legendary base you’ve seen videos of but never been able to visit? A mission that you think would be great to play with friends on other platforms?" blog post announcing the move. As GamesRadar previously reported , No Man's Sky (formerly a PlayStation console exclusive) is the June addition to Xbox Game Pass, which means it will be available for Windows 10 operating systems as well. With the added bonus of crossplay, players from all platforms can do some planet mining in tandem and alien riding. It's great to see how No Man's Sky has evolved as an IP since it launched in 2016. First it was just a PlayStation exclusive with a more traditional multiplayer construct. Then, it went to Xbox in 2018 and in 2019 the Beyond update … [Read more...] about No Man’s Sky will have multiplayer crossplay when it drops on Xbox Game Pass
