Amid huge losses in subscribers and results allegedly negatively impacted by password-sharing , Netflix will soon be joining the other streaming services that offer an ad-supported tier. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Netflix's co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed at the Cannes Lions advertising festival that the company intends to roll out the new tier by the end of 2022. "We've left a big customer segment off the table, which is people who say: 'Hey, Netflix is too expensive for me and I don't mind advertising,'" Sarandos said. "We [are] adding an ad tier; we're not adding ads to Netflix as you know it today. We're adding an ad tier for folks who say, 'Hey, I want a lower price and I'll watch ads.'" A Netflix internal memo obtained by The New York Times in May indicated that management is aiming to launch the new ad-based tier as early as October. At around the same time, Netflix will ramp up efforts to stop password-sharing, a mission the company has been on for some time … [Read more...] about Netflix’s Ad-Supported Version Really Is Happening

Some WoW Fans Are Begging Blizzard To Delay Dragonflight
The release of World of Warcraft's next expansion, Dragonflight, is far closer than most players expected, with Blizzard recently confirming the expansion to be on track for a 2022 release . That was not news many players in the game's community expected to hear. After all, when Blizzard announced Dragonflight back in April , it made sure not to give any kind of release date or window, instead telling players it would arrive when it was ready. "When it's ready" is apparently very soon, as in "before or on December 31, 2022" soon. Players aren't sure what to make of this. On one hand, the community is desperate to move on from the disappointment that was Shadowlands and return to Azeroth proper. On the other hand, given the late announcement of the expansion and the fact that alpha testing for Dragonflight has yet to start on the game's public test realm (but is likely coming very soon), players are concerned a 2022 release date is too soon. As such, a significant part of … [Read more...] about Some WoW Fans Are Begging Blizzard To Delay Dragonflight
Final Fantasy 7 Remake community got baited by a toddler
Final Fantasy 7 Remake's community just got baited in the worst way - by a toddler. Earlier this week, the tweet just below gained huge traction online, as one user noticed a red ring seemingly orbiting the Buster Sword on Final Fantasy 7 Remake's opening start screen. Users began speculating that this was a prelude to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth , announced just last week, which prominently featured red text among its key art. Holy heck, and now this Rebirth colour effect has been added to the title screen when you boot up Final Fantasy VII Remake. pic.twitter.com/EVRIzD0upn June 23, 2022 See more However, it wasn't to be. The same Twitter user who made the initial supposed discovery then updated his Twitter account later that same day - it turns out his toddler had lobbed a toy at the TV screen, causing it to give off the unusual red circle emanating around Cloud's Buster Sword, instead of the actual game doing it deliberately. Folks, I’m so sorry. False … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy 7 Remake community got baited by a toddler

Chris Pratt Declares His Mario Voice Is “Unlike Anything You’ve Ever Heard”
Echoing similar remarks from a producer of the upcoming Super Mario movie made last fall , actor Chris Pratt--who will voice the titular plumber--said in a recent interview that his portrayal will be "unlike anything you've ever heard." Speaking with Variety to promote his upcoming Amazon Prime Video series The Terminal List , Pratt also touched briefly on the Nintendo film. "I worked really closely with the directors on trying out a few things and landed on something that I'm really proud of and can't wait for people to see and hear," Pratt said. "It's an animated voiceover narrative. It's not a live-action movie. I'm not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I'm providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you've heard in the Mario world before." In November, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri called Pratt's voice for Mario as "Phenomenal," adding that he "can't wait for people to hear it." Meledandri, who is … [Read more...] about Chris Pratt Declares His Mario Voice Is “Unlike Anything You’ve Ever Heard”
Top Gun: Maverick’s streaming release date reportedly depends on Tom Cruise
Top Gun: Maverick doesn't have a streaming release date just yet, but when the movie will arrive on Paramount Plus reportedly depends on its star, Tom Cruise. "The last I saw with Paramount was that the window is 120 days, but Paramount would like to go back to Tom Cruise and negotiate a shorter window in order to capture some of the home video revenue, whether that's on premium video on demand, whether it's on their streaming service Paramount Plus, yet to be determined," Hollywood insider Matthew Belloni said on his podcast, The Town with Matthew Belloni (opens in new tab) . "I know Paramount would very much like to get this movie onto a streaming service soon. But if it keeps playing in theaters like it's playing, there's really no incentive for Tom Cruise to agree to that, other than money, and he's a big believer in the theatrical ecosystem and he has control over this movie in his deal." Maverick is certainly raking in the big bucks – has now made a total … [Read more...] about Top Gun: Maverick’s streaming release date reportedly depends on Tom Cruise

Chris Pratt has addressed questions about his accent in the upcoming animated Super Mario Bros. movie, saying he's doing something "updated" and "unlike anything you've heard before." His casting in the role of the Italian plumber received some criticism when it was announced, as Pratt himself is not Italian. "I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear," Pratt told Variety (opens in new tab) . "It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before." The currently untitled movie's voice cast also includes Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. Hayden Christensen says he saw “glimpses of Padmé” in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s young Leia actor
Hayden Christensen has praised Vivien Lyra Blair's performance as young Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi . Blair played a 10 year old Leia Organa in the show, who ended up on an adventure across the galaxy with the titular Jedi Master. "I was just thrilled at seeing young Leia in this story and how's she's represented," Christensen told E! News (opens in new tab) . "I think they really imbued the character with all the qualities that make that character great. And young Vivien has done such a great job of bringing her to life." He added: "For me, that's been part of the fun of it, is just getting those little glimpses of Padmé, which I do get." Obi-Wan Kenobi recently wrapped up its 6 episode run on Disney Plus. Though there's been no confirmation of an Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 , Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is definitely open to the idea . "Well, frankly, we did set out to do that as a limited series," she said. But I think if there's huge engagement and … [Read more...] about Hayden Christensen says he saw “glimpses of Padmé” in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s young Leia actor
WoW Classic is dropping its “no changes” philosophy for Wrath of the Lich King
Blizzard has announced some additional changes coming for Wrath of the Lich King in World of Warcraft Classic, and the community largely seems pleased with what will be different from the original release. As WoW Classic continues to evolve with further expansion packs, Blizzard says in a blog post (opens in new tab) that the studio intends to move from a "#NoChanges" philosophy to a "#SomeChanges" approach, to ensure that the core of the original experience remains, even as the game continues to get new content. But that's not the only change. The devs intend to "nurture and protect social experiences" across the board. That's why the Dungeon Finder has been removed, as previously announced, and the studio is open to further changes to preserve that early social experience. Other changes are intended to ensure that progression and classes remain approachable, and that the player-driven stories about the world itself remain the core of the game. In concrete terms of … [Read more...] about WoW Classic is dropping its “no changes” philosophy for Wrath of the Lich King
