343 Inudstries are working on ways to pull all of the mods made for the PC version of Halo over to run on the Xbox version of the Master Chief Collection. While the work is far from complete, this is good reason to be excited. Both because the PC modding scene will get to play their work in new places, and also because it could be a sign there will be a PC version of the MCC, too. Halo: Custom Edition was a free expansion for the PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved (confusingly, meaning both versions of the game can be abbreviated to H:CE). Long before Forge, PC players were making custom maps for Halo. As well as being able to map out multiplayer arenas, you could also drop in AI, build missions with checkpoints and objectives. In a recent developer update, 343 explained that Sean Cooper, a member of the Custom Edition modding community, had joined the team and was “working on the pipeline and process to bring Halo Custom Edition maps into MCC.” Unfortunately, … [Read more...] about The Master Chief Collection could one day run Halo PC mods

The official Xbox Twitter account today teased the possible arrival of Halo: The Master Chief Collection to its subscription-based Xbox Game Pass. The service, which currently costs users $9.99 per month, already features popular AAA titles including Sea of Thieves, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Gears of War 4, but it looks as though it won’t be long before 343 Industries’ effort becomes part of the selection as well. The Xbox Twitter account teasedHalo: The Master Chief Collection‘s arrival on Game Pass through a brief new ad that shows Xbox titles being grabbed as part of a drive-thru service. With the request to “Just say when,” it’s clear that the ad is more or less a confirmation that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to Game Pass at some point in the future. Before Microsoft's Xbox One X hit the market, virtually all talk about the machine was focused on what it could do - how many pixels it pushed, how smooth a framerate it delivered, how many flops it could flip. It was touted as the world's most powerful console, meant to show off the kind of power only Microsoft could deliver. If you wanted true 4K gaming, if you wanted your games to look their absolute best (setting aside competition in the PC realm), you needed an Xbox One X. Three months later, it's become apparent that the device once known as Project Scorpio is fulfilling another purpose: repairing Microsoft's tarnished image. Phil Spencer gives us a new Xbox When the Xbox One was revealed to the world, it was a confusing mess of ideas and half-baked compromises. Executives (in)famously talked up what many anticipated being the next great gaming console as a place where you could... watch TV and track your fantasy football stats. And be interrupted by a Skype call while you were … [Read more...] about Xbox One X is the beginning of a new era for Xbox, and the Master Chief Collection update proves it
We know that the First person shooting game Halo (Halo 6 most probably) is under production, although it has not been announced officially. With that, we have Halo The Master Chief Collection update that has been awaited for a long time. With all these multiple productions underway there have been some real concerns from the fans that the Halo 6 may be affected by the present concentration on Halo: MCC and Halo 5. This Week in a blog post by the developer 343 Industries made it clear that Halo: MCC and Halo 5 are being produced apart in such a manner that they will not be pulling resources from the next Halo title. 343 team added that a small team at 343 is working on the legacy Halo Games. They added that this team is entirely separate from the other major teams working on other Halo titles. 343 elaborated that the fans should not be worried even a little as there is no overlap between the production of these projects. The aim is to get all of these projects … [Read more...] about Work on The Master Chief Collection Will Not Affect Halo 6
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is about to get some major updates that will drastically rework code and improve functionality, courtesy of a small team within 343 Industries dedicated solely to supporting old Halo games. Normally this would be good - if somewhat expected - news. What makes this particular turn of events notable is that it's currently February 2018, more than three years on from Halo: MCC's original release date of November 11, 2014. It's not like this hasn't been coming for awhile, either. MCC was famously lambasted for unreliable matchmaking, sluggish performance, and general clunky bugginess. So what's on the docket for the future? Better tools for a better game This bit is all about APIs and XDKs, but don't be scared off by the acronyms. API stands for Application Programming Interface - essentially it's a suite of tools and code for handling programming requests, ie. "send X data to Y server". So in the case of MCC's matchmaking, this means an update to how the … [Read more...] about It’s been more than 3 years, but Halo: The Master Chief Collection is getting a huge update
