The countdown is over and we’ve solidified our list for the top 50 games of 2018, which covers the gamut of big-name blockbusters and small-team triumphs. But we know it’s a pretty long list, so here are the picks that can be played on Windows PC (and sometimes Linux and Mac, too). Out of our top 50 picks, 35 can be played on PC. That’s more any other platform. Of those, seven titles cannot be played on any console: Frostpunk, Wreckfest, World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, The Red Strings Club, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, BattleTech, and our #2 game of the year, Return of the Obra Dinn. Out of our top 50 picks, 29 can be played on the PS4. Of those, five are exclusive to Sony’s platform: Shadow of the Colossus, Astro Bot Rescue Mission (for PlayStation VR), Marvel’s Spider-Man, Tetris Effect, and our #1 game of the year, God of War. Of all the iterations of the Punisher that have come and gone, be they film or TV, live-action or animated, Punisher: War Zone stands out. It’s a superhero film that’s ahead of its time — the kind of film that feels like a reaction to the past decade of Marvel and DC films, rather than a precursor. It’s also more fun — a feat in and of itself. In broad strokes, the Punisher’s origin story is a familiar one: After his family is murdered by mobsters, Frank Castle embarks on a quest for vengeance. His firearm-heavy particulars (as well as all the extralegal murder and torture) make the character inherently difficult to tackle, more so as the national conversation around gun control grows more relevant. The two Punisher films leading up to War Zone — released in 1989 and 2004, starring Dolph Lundgren and Thomas Jane, respectively — speak a little to the reason that Frank Castle continues to have cultural capital. Following the firing of filmmaker James Gunn by Disney due to offensive tweets, the fans have been constantly backing the Guardians of the Galaxy Director with their support. Various online petitions were launched by the fans and the most lively petition has just crossed 300,000 signatures. Several petitions generated online have been able to achieve their objectives through spreading awareness about the issue. In the case of James Gunn, supporters have been merely expressing their love for him. Through the petition of rehiring the Guardians Of the Galaxy Director Marvel fans tend to show their support regardless of his controversial tweet in the past. Who would have guessed 10 years ago that a shot in the dark comic book adaptation of a little-known superhero would kick start a film franchise big enough to rule the box office? Pretty much no-one. And yet, here we are with a whopping 19 MCU movies (and counting) all based in that same universe, all interconnected, and all pretty damn good.
