As much as I like easy money and blowing everything up, it’s the ability to zoom out that I’ve played around with the most. Spelunky 2 plays on the limits of your vision, with traps that can be triggered while still off-screen, or easy-to-miss objects or doors you can find yourself urgently backtracking to find. Being able to zoom out changes all that. It doesn’t erase the game’s challenge, but it changes how you make decisions when you know there’s turkeys ahead, or lava to the right, or a really good shop near the exit. Your in-game hands will grip models in natural positions, letting you hold bottles from the base, the tip, or any point along the side, for example. Mech Mechanic Simulator’s demo is a relaxing way to spend time with mechs
It’s simple, repetitive, has a terrible framerate, is scored with generic rock music, and has an irritating “comedy” robot who makes one of six available quips every 15 seconds on a loop. I don’t hate it. Turn off its audio, put on a podcast, and it’s a fairly relaxing and methodical way to spend time with some mechs. I say this as someone who bought a Gundam kit last year in a desperate attempt to develop some sort of lockdown hobby, and spent a perfectly pleasant three evenings snapping its tiny pieces together.
