Sometimes it’s good to take a break from video games. Unfortunately, life without video games can get pretty boring, so thank god we have tabletop games to fall back on. Classics such as Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer have remained hugely popular for decades, but there are plenty of other lesser-known games that are worthy of your attention. So which ones do you enjoy playing the most? Personally, I’m a fan of accessible games that you can introduce to a wide range of players. Though there’s certainly something to be said for complex games that you can really sink your teeth into, being able to whip out One Night Ultimate Werewolf and get everyone involved is much more enjoyable to me than spending 100 hours trying to figure out Arkham Horror with a bunch of increasingly bored friends. But what are your favorites? As always, let us know in the comments section below and we’ll feature our favorite response! … [Read more...] about Tell GR: What’s Your Favorite Tabletop Game?
Paradox Interactive is making tabletop games, starting with four of its most iconic strategy franchises. Paradox announced the news earlier today, alongside the Kickstarter campaign for Crusader Kings, the first of the four games that are getting the tabletop treatment. Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron, and Cities: Skylines are up next. The publisher will be working with “a series of proven board game designers,” starting with Swedish tabletop game publisher, Free League, who developed award-winning RPGs Tales from the Loop, Coriolis – The Third Horizon, and Mutant: Year Zero. “In this medieval strategy soap opera, your King or Queen will need to survive invasions, plots, crusades, and even marriage. Or at least have children, siblings or spouses standing by to take over the throne. Failure to raise a suitable heir could face you with the end of your dynasty,” reads the press release. “Crusader Kings – The Board Game is not an attempt to … [Read more...] about Paradox is making tabletop games for their popular strategy titles, starting with Crusader Kings
"Play The Game of War," says the monotone voice, as footage of a silver board topped with jagged counters fades into view, "and you will learn how to transform the enclosed lands of spectacular capitalism into the participatory playgrounds of cybernetic communism." A pair of disembodied hands move three golden cubes into a battle formation. Scattered across the grid are pieces shaped like castles, flags and mountain ranges. As futuristic visions from The Matrix dissolve into a quote, I skim the phrases "proletarian revolution" and "the autonomy of place". The video later explores the theory of "libidinous combat", and it's everything it promises to be. I am on the website for Class Wargames, an organisation which declares itself an "avant-garde movement of artists, activists and theoreticians." The group has reproduced Guy Debord's board game Le Jeu de la Guerre or The Game Of War - no easy feat considering its creator had all copies of it reduced to pulp shortly before he killed … [Read more...] about Can tabletop games reshape the government?
2018 is going to see some huge new releases in the world of tabletop gaming, as well as some incredible releases and updates for already established products. This is my top six upcoming exciting board games, for titles that have either been announced, teased, or have been funded on Kickstarter and are awaiting a full commercial release, and why I’m looking forward to them. Feel free to share your top six upcoming tabletop games in the comments at the bottom or via our social media channels. Star Wars Legion – Fantasy Flight Games The first on my list of exciting upcoming tabletop games is FFG’s soon to be released Star Wars Legion. FFG has a history of not only pleasing franchise fans but also bringing in non-franchise fans to their markets. X-Wing was initially exciting to Star Wars fans who wanted to live out X-Wing/Tie Fighter dogfights on the tabletop, but it’s become a recognized competitive miniatures skirmish game, far beyond the franchise fan base. … [Read more...] about 6 Upcoming Exciting Tabletop Games
By Sherif Saed, Wednesday, 24 January 2018 13:20 GMT Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 is the sequel to last year’s RTS based on the tabletop game, and it promises a whole host of upgrades. As one would expect from a sequel, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 aims to expand and refine the core experience established by the original game. Tindalos Interactive returns as the game’s developer, and the studio promises a more ambitious sequel. Armada 2 will feature all 12 factions from the tabletop game and its expansion at launch. This includes the Imperial Navy, Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Necrons, Chaos, Aeldari Corsairs, Aeldari Craftworld, Drukhari, the T’au Merchant and Protector Fleets, Orks, and the Tyranids. Rogue Traders is the only faction that won’t be there at launch. The main story will be set during the Gathering Storm and the 13th Black Crusade story, with Tindalos promising multiple campaigns. The developer also revealed that the sequel will allow … [Read more...] about Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 announced, includes all 12 factions from the tabletop game
