UPDATE 9/3/18: Smash Bros. series boss Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed his involvement in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch. Writing on Twitter following last night's announcement, Sakurai said he had been working on the Switch version in secret for some time: "Right now we're just at the stage where we revealed this game, but I've been working on this game in silence day after day," he wrote. "Please wait until we can release more information, or until release day!" (Thanks to SourceGaming for the translation, which we've independently checked.) … [Read more...] about Super Smash Bros. announced for Nintendo Switch

Everything we know about Super Smash Bros. on Switch. Super Smash Bros. Switch is coming, and though it's not a huge surprise - every home console since the series' N64 debut has had one - there's a lot of questions left unanswered after March's Nintendo Direct teaser. Though we know who is working on it, some confirmed characters and a release window, there's a lot we're also unsure about right now. Latest update: It's almost time for E3 2018 conferences, where we'll hear plenty about Super Smash Bros on Switch. What, exactly, should we learn? Not only is it playable at E3, but it'll be part of an invitational tournament, giving us plenty of footage to mull over. The show should give us an idea of a roster and features, too, so expect this to be the biggest update on the game yet. What is Super Smash Bros. Zelda, Mario, and Mario Kart have all made it to the Nintendo Switch in the form of new games and remasters; but there are still a few other iconic franchises still on the way. We know a new Metroid is in development, but news on either a remake or new version of Super Smash Bros. has been strangely missing. Until now, that is… Industry tipster Emily Rogers claims to have sources who indicate a Super Smash Bros. game will be released on the Nintendo Switch before the end of 2018. That would definitely be a pretty big surprise if it ends up being true. Perhaps an E3 or Nintendo Direct mic drop moment? The rumors claim that the game will be based on the most recent Wii U and 3DS version, but will also add new content and make some improvements to existing features. We’re definitely still in rumor territory at this point, but it should be noted that at least some of Rogers’ tips have proven to be true in the past. Most notably, the industry insider leaked full specs for … [Read more...] about Super Smash Bros. Game Coming to Switch This Year?
Nintendo Switch sure is one of the most successful consoles right now, we can’t help but notice though that something is missing. A new Super Smash Bros title would be a perfect fit for the Switch and, rumor has it, Nintendo might soon give it to us. With the addition of Mega Man 11, Kirby Star Allies and Metroid Prime 4 to the Nintendo Switch Store later this year, all major Super Smash Bros characters will be officially on the console. What better way to celebrate the occasion than by giving fans a new title for the popular fighting game? Apparently, there’s a rumor going around that Nintendo already has Super Smash Bros on the radar for Nintendo Switch and will have an official announcement for this year. Emily Rogers has said on ResetEra that a new entry for the franchise will indeed be announced later this year mixing new and old content of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. The post says: Unfortunately, I don’t have enough information to … [Read more...] about Rumor: There’s A New Super Smash Bros Coming To Nintendo Switch This Year
Super Smash Bros. Brawl turned 10 years old this week — a major milestone for one of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises, your opinions on the game itself be damned. (I’m still a fan.) While the Wii game may not have aged well for many players, Brawl shook up the Nintendo fan service-laden, crossover fighting series with two monumental inclusions: third-party characters on the roster. Solid Snake and Sonic the Hedgehog entered the fray in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, breaking Smash’s tacit rule of “Nintendo characters only.” But if you were online back in the day when Nintendo revealed the fighters — first Snake at E3 2006, then Sonic in October 2007 — you remember that the pair broke the internet, too. Nintendo fans aren’t only fans of Nintendo, after all; for Solid Snake to return to Nintendo consoles in a Smash game, of all things, was huge. Sonic’s inclusion? Even bigger. You might remember the Smash Dojo, the site that all of … [Read more...] about When Sonic joined Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the internet exploded
