Epic Games has gained the services of the Star Wars Rogue Squadron director, Julian Eggebrecht. Eggebrecht co-founded Factor 5 Inc., the studio behind Rogue Squadron. The move is a return to popular game development for Eggebrecht, who has been had a diverse career working in online technology. Eggebrecht’s LinkedIn reflects that the job change took place last month (January 2019) and lists his role as “Director, Online Technology at Epic Games.” Eggebrecht’s recent career experience has seen him working outside of games as a vice president at Disney-owned streaming service Hulu. The developer also worked with Factor 5 Inc. colleagues to found social gaming company TouchFactor and video service SmoothVOD. It’s finally on its way. Disney’s streaming service, now called Disney+, has a release date (well, more like a release window), and, in quite the surprise, the House of Mouse has also announced a Star Wars: Rogue One prequel TV show. Even better, one of the main cast members is returning as lead for the “spy thriller.”As revealed on a conference call by Disney CEO Bob Iger (via Investors.com), Disney+ is launching in the US – other regions haven’t yet been confirmed – in “late 2019”. Outside of that, an exact release date hasn’t been confirmed, nor has a monthly subscription cost.But what good is a plus if you don’t have some exclusive content to parade around? The first Star Wars expanded-universe movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is now getting its own spin-off show which will air on Disney’s streaming service Disney+, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced today. The new Star Wars series, which will follow Rogue One’s charming rebel, Cassian Andor, will be a spy thriller set before the events of the film. Diego Luna, who played Andor in the original film, will return to the role for the series. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply,” Luna said in a press release about the show’s announcement. In 2017 Donnie Yen, the actor and martial artist known for his roles in Ip Man and Rogue One: A Star War Story, among other films, was cast in a movie adaptation of United Front Games' Sleeping Dogs. Although news about the flick has since been quiet, Yen has confirmed that the project is still happening.Yen posted an image of himself on Instagram that looks a lot like promotional art of Wei Shen, the protagonist of Sleeping Dogs. There's also a few additional images from the game alongside scenes of Yen mimicking the shots.
