The sell couldn’t have been any easier for Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment. The studio, following months of anticipation, took to the stage at Star Wars Celebration 2019 to finally outline its vision for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It was intoxicating. It was vague. And, honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about it.What I do know is that Respawn’s founder Vince Zampella arrived with a pitch so convincing that the studio has been able to nail a dream reveal of sorts. This was big on the tell and extremely light on show. That pitch, if you aren’t already aware, sounds a little something like this: “This is a Jedi fantasy, story-driven game,” Zampella said at the event, struggling to be heard over the swell of noise erupting from the bleachers. “We are known for multiplayer shooters, but that’s not just who we are. This is a story game – no multiplayer, no microtransactions; this is about being a … [Read more...] about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the Star Wars game we’ve all been waiting for, and it could decide the future of EA

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the upcoming Star Wars game by Titanfall and Apex Legends studio Respawn Entertainment, will be a little less shrouded in mystery this April. In this official blog post, they announce that EA will be showcasing the game on Saturday, April 13th at the Star Wars Celebration convention in Chicago. If you’ve been off in a galaxy far, far away, Fallen Order is set shortly after the prequel trilogy, and tells the story of a young Padawan who somehow survived Order 66, the backstabbilicious Jedi purge carried out by the Emperor’s loyal clone army. EA and Respawn are still pretty tight-lipped on what the game will entail beyond that quick plot synopsis. It does seem like an interesting time period in the series to set a game, perhaps emphasising stealth over the usual Jedi Knight one-man-army antics. Respawn are definitely a hot property right now – Apex Legends is the first battle royale in a while to bring in the crowds and mix up the formula a … [Read more...] about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to be unveiled on April 13th
While the game of the moment is Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment isn’t resting on its laurels. The Titanfall developer has a separate team working on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which, according to EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson, we will get to see the first glimpses of it “in the next few months”. Speaking on EA’s financial call, Wilson said Fallen Order “captures the fantasy of becoming a Jedi”. Now, while Wilson might be talking about lightsaber duels, force powers, and long brown robes, I think I speak for everyone when I say we want a game about negotiating the end of trade embargoes and learning some midichlorian lore deep cuts. Thankfully, we don’t need to wait too long to see which exact Jedi fantasies EA is catering to. Wilson wasn’t more specific about the time scale, however, so with this being early February, “the next few months” could mean as late as June when EA holds its pre-E3 EA Play event. We know that … [Read more...] about First glimpses of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to be shown “In the next few months”
Back to school This is one of the less celebrated of the classic Star Wars games (now decreed to be non-canonical by the House of Mouse). Don’t get me wrong; it’s no KotOR or Jedi Outcast, but there’s a lot to like under the hood of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Or, possibly, inside the tauntaun. The plot of this is pretty simple. Luke is the master of a school for new Jedi. You’re Jaden, a new recruit, just on the way there, but your ship is attacked! In fact, the whole school is! Only a handful of you survive to continue your training, whilst also trying to thwart a nefarious Sith plot. And so on. Your own master is Kyle “Better than Skywalker” Katarn, who, I swear to god, why wouldn’t they have him in the new films? But anyway. You get sent out on various stand alone missions to different planets, some involving some (admittedly pretty loose) combat, others a bit of platforming. Or, y’know, jumping around on Dune-esque sandworms. As … [Read more...] about Have You Played… Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy?
It's an understatement to say that we don't know much about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Respawn's Vince Zampella showed up at EA Play this year before E3 to say, essentially, 'Yes, it exists.' But we have a title, we know it's a single-player game and we know the developer's history—which goes all the way back to the Medal of Honor series—and most importantly, we have opinions about Star Wars (a rare quality). Here's what we're hoping to see when Fallen Order makes its big debut next year. Let us know in the comments what kind of Star Wars game you want to see next.Blasters with Respawn's trademark feel There are few FPS developers working today who know how to make better weapons than Respawn. The studio was of course formed by ex-Infinity Ward devs, who made their bones designing some of the most kinetic and punchy guns ever to grace a video game. I hope the LucasArts licence doesn't stop them from bringing that kind of lethality to the Star Wars universe. I … [Read more...] about What we want from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
