In a restaurant somewhere in sunny Los Angeles County, 13 years ago, two old friends were having lunch. Wine and conversation were flowing. They remembered how they'd met at LucasArts in the 90s. They weren't there to talk business but they did because video games were their bread and butter. One of the men, Jack Sorensen, was reeling-off job opportunities he knew of - he being executive vice president of worldwide studios at games publisher THQ. "THQ Australia?" he enquired. But the other man, Dean Sharpe, didn't seem interested. He had closed his own studio Big Ape Productions a couple of years earlier, dropped off the radar and taken a break, and now he was ready for something new. But Sharpe wanted a challenge. Sorensen dangled the bait. "It was somewhere during the second bottle of wine he mentioned he had this crazy thing in Ukraine," Dean Sharpe tells me over Skype now (he never did get fully back on the radar and he's a hard man to find). "Wow Ukraine," he thought to himself, … [Read more...] about The Californian sent to save Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl from development hell

Fear The Wolves battle royale game delayed
It's bad news for battle royale fans, as the newest contender in the (increasingly crowded) market has been delayed by several weeks. Fear The Wolves was scheduled to be released on Steam today in early access, but developer Vostok Games yesterday announced it will be extending the closed beta stage instead. Vostok claimed the reason for this was "to ensure the well-received core experience isn't marred by technical issues." A little more promisingly, the developer revealed it had so far received positive feedback from the test phase. Players were apparently "satisfied with the core combination of classic Battle Royale gameplay with original mechanics - particularly the players vs. environment, radiation hazards, dynamic weather, and unique end-of-game extraction system."If you're wondering what exactly distinguishes Fear The Wolves from other battle royales: it's set in irradiated Chernobyl, has a roaming mutant wolf pack (did the name give it away?), and boasts a mysterious new game … [Read more...] about Fear The Wolves battle royale game delayed
Survive Opponents And The World In Stalker-Inspired Battle Royale, Fear The Wolves
I had the opportunity to learn about a handful of new Battle Royale games at E3 2018, and each one had something new to offer the genre, which is a good thing with the sheer number of new games coming out every month. In Fear The Wolves, 100 players will drop into the exclusion zone of Chernobyl and fight both each other and the world around them to come out on top of the pack. What will set Fear The Wolves apart is the Player vs Environment aspects, such as the wolves and mutants that roam the world, alongside the radiation and other players that you’ll have to combat as well. Coming from some of the team that created S.T.A.L.K.E.R., this is a game that Battle Royale fans, and even those new to the genre, should keep an eye on. The developers have big plans, with a robust day & night cycle and weather system that will affect the game and how it plays. This plays into more than just how you’ll see other players, because while fog will decrease your vision, heavy wind … [Read more...] about Survive Opponents And The World In Stalker-Inspired Battle Royale, Fear The Wolves
STALKER 2 In Production, Scheduled To Roll Out Sometime In 2021
It has been years since we last heard about the first-person shooter survival horror game Stalker. Now though, GSC Gameworld has recently announced that STALKER 2 is in development, scheduled to release in 2021. The game was reported to be cancelled back in 2012. The announcement was made by the owner, Sergiy Grygorovych, of GSC Game World via Facebook. Where the link to a new official website was provided. There is a STALKER 2 logo with 2021 printed underneath alongside the email address. Presumably for newsletter sign-ups. For those who still have any doubts, the game is also shown on the GSC Game World’s main website. Sergey Galyonkin who you may know best as the manager of SteamSpy also made a Tweet with the link to the announcement long before anyone else did. Galyonkin is also the director of, publishing strategy at Epic Games. Interestingly, with a laughing comment, he added a response to a person,”guess the engine?” So it seems pretty obvious that this … [Read more...] about STALKER 2 In Production, Scheduled To Roll Out Sometime In 2021
Stalker 2 Coming in 2021
Stalker 2 is rising out of its grave and coming out in 2021. Seemingly out of nowhere, a website appeared with the game's title, an email, and "2.0.2.1." confirming the game's existence and projected release date. Developer GSC Game World's Owner Sergiy Grygorovych posted a link to the website on his Facebook page. It's also now listed on Ukrainian developer's official website, validating Grygorovych's post. Besides the logo and release year, nothing else was shown. Anything new in the Stalker universe needs a bit more proof than most games, especially considering the franchise's history with fraudulent developers. In 2014, West Games formed and claimed to be made up of ex-Stalker developers in order to fund their new game on Kickstarter. It turned out to be an elaborate lie but GSC Game World did not file any lawsuits. If you blocked Stalker 2 from your mind, there's a good reason. The game was canceled in 2012 after the developer could not make the game fast enough and … [Read more...] about Stalker 2 Coming in 2021
