One of Ubisoft's big reveals at E3 this summer was the pirate naval warfare game Skull & Bones. We played it at E3 and came away generally impressed. And on a recent trip to developer Ubisoft Singapore's studio we had the opportunity to speak with creative director Justin Farren, who worked on Gears of War and Madden before joining Ubisoft. He also produced Assassin's Creed Unity, Black Flag, and Syndicate in Singapore. Our conversation covers a number of topics, including why Skull & Bones is a new IP instead of an Assassin's Creed game, the possibility of a Switch version, and how the game uses the power of the Xbox One X. Farren also told us there will be loot boxes, but the game will take steps to avoid a pay-to-win scenario. Additionally, we asked about the mysterious single-player mode, and Farren confirmed the game will offer ... something for fans in this department, though it's still unclear how this may work. Our interview, condensed and edited for clarity, follows … [Read more...] about Skull And Bones Dev Talks Single-Player, Loot Boxes, And Why It’s Not An Assassin’s Creed Game

Star Citizen’s Single-Player Squadron 42 Gets Spectacular Video Showing the Coil
Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games released a new video about the game’s single-player campaign Squadron 42. We get to see the game’s developers as they explain how the Coil has created and the many challenges that they faced in designing such a complex environment. We also get to see the concept artwork that inspired it, and some chunks of footage showing how it looks in game, and it looks amazing. Especially impressive is the volumetric tech that creates some beautiful cosmic clouds fully affected by lighting. The Coil was introduced in the spectacular vertical slice of gameplay that we saw in December. It’s formed by the remains of a planet that was affected by a cosmic explosion and completely destroyed. You can check the video below. If you want to see and learn more of Squadron 42, you can enjoy the spectacular vertical slice of the single-player campaign, and a version of the same footage with commentary from the … [Read more...] about Star Citizen’s Single-Player Squadron 42 Gets Spectacular Video Showing the Coil
Gran Turismo Sport January Update Brings 10 New Cars, Monza, and More Single Player Events
Today Sony Interactive Entertainment and Polyphony Digital announced that Gran Turismo Sport will receive an update this month, and there will be plenty of new content. First of all, new events will be added to the GT League single player campaign. Raptor Survival (Beginner League) J-Sport Meeting (Amateur League) La Festa Cavallino (Professional League) Gr.3 Endurance Series (Endurance League) While the good folks at Polyphony still haven’t learned that the correct way to write it is “La Festa del Cavallino,” I’m still looking foward to it. Yet, that’s certainly not all, as we also get ten brand new cars, including both old and glorious and brand new. Toyota Supra RZ (N300) Toyota 2000GT (N200) Toyota FT-1 (N500) Jaguar XJ13 (Gr.X) McLaren F1 (N600) Ferrari 512 BB (N400) Ferrari 330 P4 (Gr.X) Lamborghini Diablo GT (N600) Ford GT (N600) Dodge Viper GTS (N500) For fans of new tracks, there’s some joy as well. The game will bring us back … [Read more...] about Gran Turismo Sport January Update Brings 10 New Cars, Monza, and More Single Player Events
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor—Martyr adds new map, class, single player chapter
Following a delay in late 2016, Neocore Games' Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr arrived in Early Access last year. Now, the open-world isometric ARPG has launched its "biggest content update" to date, which brings with it a new map, class and the first chapter of its single player campaign. The latter is teased in the following short, which the developer says doubles up as a tutorial for what's to come. First, here's that: The Primaris Psyker Inquisitor is the new class, comprised of three specialist roles—Aetherwalkers, Empyreanists and Scryers—Primaris Psykers channel otherworldly energies, so says Neocore, but risk damnation from the Immaterium in doing so. As such, Psykers incur penalties for using their psychic powers. More information on what the new class is all about can be found in this Steam Community update post, which is where you'll also find full patch notes. Before you go, here's an image of a Psyker. That's the face you make when you … [Read more...] about Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor—Martyr adds new map, class, single player chapter
Watch six minutes of Metal Gear Survive single-player
A new single-player trailer for Metal Gear Survive has popped out of a portal, showing off six minutes of zombie murder, rescues, crafting and base defence. Take a gander at the vertical slice above. The new trailer also marks the moment where I finally realised that the weird zombie dimension is pretty much just Afghanistan and Africa from The Phantom Pain, two of the least visually interesting open-world environments I’ve sauntered through in the last few years. And this time, they’re also very foggy. Oh dear. Despite the boring environments, my interest remains piqued. The base-building side of things looks like a lark, and the whole survivor rescue thing looks like an interesting combination of Dead Rising’s survivor system and The Phantom Pain’s staff system. It is my greatest hope that I’ll be able to fill my base with bears, but I’m not holding my breath. Metal Gear Survive is due out on February 20 in the US and February 22 … [Read more...] about Watch six minutes of Metal Gear Survive single-player
