Elden Ring’s sold just under 17 million copies in six months

August 18, 2022 by www.pcgamer.com

Audio player loading… Elden Ring was released on February 25 this year and, just under six months later, publisher Bandai Namco has announced it's sold a staggering 16.6 million copies of the game. This makes it by far the biggest individual success in developer FromSoft's history: the Dark Souls series has sold a combined total of around 27 million, while the most recent figure for Sekiro was 5 million copies sold as of summer 2020. Clearly the mass market loves some demigod runes and a bit of body grafting. The news came as part of Bandai Namco's financial results (opens in new tab) (thanks, Gamebiz.jp (opens in new tab) ) for the first financial quarter of 2023 (meaning April through June 2022), which show that the Japanese giant is in rude health: it reported videogame sales totalling ¥40.5 billion yen, a roughly 55% year-on-year increase, with 11,444,000 units sold over these three months. Despite such sales, the publisher forecasts an overall drop in profit … [Read more...] about Elden Ring’s sold just under 17 million copies in six months

Nintendo was working on its own cross-platform version of the Xbox Adaptive Controller

August 18, 2022 by www.pcgamer.com

Audio player loading… The Xbox Adaptive Controller has proven itself a tremendously useful device for anyone with limited mobility to game without compromise. So much so that Nintendo may have been eyeing up its own version of the accessibility controller, with a view to making it platform agnostic. Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has spoken about the possibility of such a controller in an interview with Inverse (opens in new tab) (via TechRadar (opens in new tab) ). "Imagine an adaptive controller that you could play with your latest Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo platform. That's what we were working on three years ago." Fils-Aimé left Nintendo in 2019 and cannot say for sure whether Nintendo still has hopes of creating such a controller. He notes that he would like to see it reach the market sooner rather than later, however. "My hope is that the effort has continued. I'm not sure if it has or has not," Fils-Aimé says. "But … [Read more...] about Nintendo was working on its own cross-platform version of the Xbox Adaptive Controller

GTA 6 Rumor Suggests A Return To Single-Player DLC

August 17, 2022 by www.gamespot.com

New rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6 have come to light, with a tipster suggesting that the next entry in the series might include more traditional single-player DLC that GTA V fans called for but never got. Known GTA tipster Tez2 shared new rumors in a post on GTAForums . Responding to a comment about the reports of how GTA 6 will feature a world that is "expanding over time," the insider said this means "Rockstar will go back to how they were planning future content before GTA Online success boomed." According to Tez2, Rockstar was working on single-player DLC for Grand Theft Auto V but the studio ended these projects and shifted its focus to GTA Online. For GTA 6, or whatever the game is called, Tez2 claimed that "new cities and missions" will come to the game as DLC, and they will "definitely be planned out before VI releases." The tipster said they believe the new content for GTA 6 will take the form of "instanced new cities or islands," similar to Cayo Perico or North … [Read more...] about GTA 6 Rumor Suggests A Return To Single-Player DLC

GTA 6 Rumors: Grand Theft Auto Release Date, Map, Characters, And More

July 27, 2022 by www.gamespot.com

Grand Theft Auto 6--or GTA 6--doesn't have a release date yet. In fact, we don't even know if that will be the game's official name, but we do at least know it's in active development. We also have some reported details coming in that could make the game very interesting Rockstar Games finally confirmed its development in 2022, more than eight years after the release of GTA 5, and given the studio's tendency to only release games when they're good and ready, it's difficult to tell when we'll actually be able to play it. Game development can take a very long time nowadays, compared to the early and mid-2000s when four Grand Theft Auto games released in just seven years. Little, if anything, is concrete regarding Grand Theft Auto 6's details thus far, but there have been a whole bunch of rumors. These vary wildly, with some touching on who you will play as--possibly including a playable woman for the first time in the series' single-player mode--to where the game will take place. It … [Read more...] about GTA 6 Rumors: Grand Theft Auto Release Date, Map, Characters, And More

Magic Arena gets a crossover set for the first time, and it’s Lord of the Rings

August 18, 2022 by www.pcgamer.com

Audio player loading… For a few years now, Magic: The Gathering has been doing crossover sets with other worlds under the Universes Beyond and Secret Lair labels. We've recently seen adaptations like Street Fighter and Fortnite (opens in new tab) , while an upcoming set will explore the various Warhammer properties. (opens in new tab) None of these crossovers have ever reached past paper Magic (opens in new tab) and into the digital world of Magic: The Gathering Arena. (opens in new tab) Next year, however, that changes. Upcoming set The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth will release sometime next summer, or "Q3 2023." Its release will bring the world of LOTR to a booster set that will appear not just on digital, but will be a set in Alchemy, the standard-equivalent ruleset of Arena. Wizards of the Coast previewed the set today during its Wizards Presents event. Magic designers showed off a huge piece of art, planned to span 18 cards, that will be part … [Read more...] about Magic Arena gets a crossover set for the first time, and it’s Lord of the Rings

Magic: the Gathering crossing over with Fortnite, Street Fighter, Lord of the Rings, and more

August 24, 2021 by www.pcgamer.com

Audio player loading… Wizards of the Coast announced Tuesday that Magic: the Gathering is getting a Secret Lair crossover with Fortnite, Street Fighter, and Warhammer 40,000. Wizards also shared a first look at some of the art you can expect to adorn your cards. Some fans don't seem to be too pleased with the franchise collaborations, though. Wizards made the announcements during Magic Showcase 2021, its annual presentation. All the crossovers will fall under the Universes Beyond label where previous collaborations have been categorized. Both Fortnite and Street Fighter are part of the Secret Lair drops, limited-time sales that include special art and (sometimes) unique rule sets for cards. The whole idea is that these are one-time-only sales, so if you absolutely want Chun-Li in your deck, act fast. Fortnite cards are rebranded reprints spread out over two Secret Lair drops. So essentially you're trading default art for some fun Fortnite-themed art. Wizards showed … [Read more...] about Magic: the Gathering crossing over with Fortnite, Street Fighter, Lord of the Rings, and more

August 18, 2022 by www.pcgamer.com

Audio player loading… Wizards of the Coast announced five of next year's Dungeons & Dragons releases at today's Wizards Presents event, and it seems like 2023 is going to deliver some neat stuff. There's another adventure anthology, an expanded version of a fan-favorite introductory module, and the return of Planescape, the cult classic campaign setting that gave us Planescape: Torment . Wizards Presents also had announcements for the rules updates of One D&D (opens in new tab) and digital D&D tools made in Unreal Engine 5. (opens in new tab) First on the schedule is Keys from the Golden Vault, an anthology of short adventures in the vein of Candlekeep Mysteries or Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, only this time each one involves a heist. It's "Ocean's 11 meets D&D" apparently, and it's due in winter. Following that in spring is Bigby Presents Glory of the Giants. Players had already theorized we were due for a book about giants after … [Read more...] about Next year’s D&D releases include Planescape
