Server maintenance plan
Last week, Fortnite fans found themselves frustrated when the game was hit with significant technical issues that rendered the game unplayable for several hours. During the downtime shortly after the release of the Chug Jug update, Epic Games also began efforts to fix an existing database issue. Unfortunately, things didn’t go well and Epic was forced to restore from a backup. The first attempt at this backup was unsuccessful, resulting in an extended maintenance period and lengthy queues to log-in once the servers were back online. Later in the week, Fortnite players also reported problems with logging in, social features, and forming parties. Given that Fortnite also had server issues and long queues earlier in the month, the recent technical issues in the game were particularly upsetting for fans. Epic Games seems to realize how upset fans are, though, and the developer has now announced plans to provide compensation in apology for the server downtime. In a post on the … [Read more...] about Fortnite Offering Compensation for Recent Server Downtime
Destiny 2’s servers are currently offline for a few hours, with a big new patch set to go live later today. Bungie is conducting maintenance on the servers and preparing for Destiny 2’s first major patch of 2018, which will bring the game to version 1.1.2. Downtime began at 11 a.m. ET and is expected to last until 3 p.m. ET; at noon ET, anybody who’s still playing will be kicked out to the title screen. The v1.1.2 update, which Bungie detailed last week, is the first in a series of patches planned for release in the early part of 2018. The Destiny community’s morale is at a low point, and Bungie has been promising to roll out changes to the Destiny 2 experience that are direct responses to fan feedback. The improvements in this patch include an overhaul of raid loot, multiple revisions to the semi-regular Iron Banner event — which is returning this week — and the introduction of Masterwork armor. Check back later today for Bungie’s full patch … [Read more...] about Destiny 2 servers back online, major patch released (update)
Quest Online's MMO Alganon has been offline since November of 2017. As noted by some eagle-eyed Reddit users, the game is currently inaccessible from the Steam store page. Alganon originally launched in December 2009 after being criticized for borrowing heavily from World of Warcraft for its UI and mechanics. Because of lackluster reception from critics, Quest Online decided to remove David Allen (creator of the initial idea for Alganon) and replace him with game designer Derek Smart. This prompted Allen to file a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against Quest Online, which was eventually settled. Problems continued even after the re-launch of Alganon, which raised controversy after it was revealed that its press release bore similar copy to BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic. Smart told users in a Steam post back in October 2017 that low server population was the cause for infrequent updates, writing that "we were planning a visual … [Read more...] about After nearly a decade, MMO Alganon shuts down servers
If you were planning on raiding or leveling up your character in Destiny 2 mid-day tomorrow, you may want to reconsider your plans. Developer Bungie has announced that the first-person shooter/MMO will go offline during that period tomorrow. The maintenance is set to start tomorrow, January 3, 2018, at 7:00 a.m. PDT (10:00 a.m. EDT). At this time players will no longer be able to log in to the game; however, if you are already logged in, you’ll be able to play for an additional hour. At 8:00 a.m. PDT (11:00 a.m. EDT), anybody currently playing the game will be kicked back to the main menu. During this time, the game will be completely inaccessible. Finally, at 12:00 p.m. PDT (3:00 p.m. EDT) the maintenance is scheduled to end and players will be able to access the game again. It is important to note that these times are tentative, and can be extended by Bungie. In other Destiny 2 news, a few days ago the game’s next expansion was apparently … [Read more...] about Destiny 2 Servers to Go Down for Maintenance Tomorrow
