Epic Games has shaken up the world of mobile gaming by announcing it’s not going through the official Google Play Store to bring Fortnite to Android. The game will instead only be available as a download direct from Epic’s own website. It sounds as if this was a purely financial decision. I asked Epic Games’ CEO Tim Sweeney over email if this was, even partially, a reaction to all the unofficial Fortnite apps that already exist in the Google Play Store. “No, that wasn’t a factor,” Sweeney told Polygon. “I don’t think we should fault Google or Apple for the appearance of clones. They operate stores that accept hundreds of thousands of products from the developer community, so it would be impossible to keep track of original authorship, and there’s a reasonable DMCA notice process for developers to inform them when copyright infringement does occur.” But Epic Games won’t be able to rely on the built-in features of Google … [Read more...] about Fortnite on Android: Epic’s Tim Sweeney discusses clones, payment systems and timing

Epic Games has confirmed it will not sell Fortnite for Android through the Google Play Store. Earlier this week a leak from xda-developers stated Fortnite would not be made available for Android devices through Google Play. Company CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed this was indeed the case yesterday, August 3. Sweeney told The Verge there are two reasons Epic decided to offer the game through its website instead of the Play Store. For one, it wants to maintain a direct relationship with consumers. Secondly, it isn’t too keen on having to pay 30% of the profits made from each in-game purchase. “Epic wants to have a direct relationship with our customers on all platforms where that’s possible,” Sweeney told The Verge. “The great thing about the Internet and the digital revolution is that this is possible, now that physical storefronts and middlemen distributors are no longer required.” He went on to say the Android version will initially release worldwide in … [Read more...] about Fortnite for Android will not be available from Google Play

Here’s how to download it on iOS and Android, as well as a list of the compatible devices. After it hit the Canadian Google Play store last week, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is now available in the US and a variety of other territories on both iOS and Android devices, presumably a move from Tencent to take the fight to Fortnite Mobile which recently launched in a closed beta state. Developer Tencent say it’s a fully fledged and faithful version of the PC game, and it still drops 100 players onto a murder island, tasking them with killing each other until only one ultimate victor remains. PUBG is the third best-selling game in Steam’s history and has gleefully smashed a bunch of records, so its arrival on mobile is a pretty big deal. If you want to try out the mobile version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds all you need … [Read more...] about PUBG mobile is out now in the US – here’s how to download it for iOS and Android
