Gleaner Heights is a Harvest Moon-inspired retro-styled farming sim developed entirely by one man, a very basic outline that sounds a lot like the indie mega-hit Stardew Valley. To a point, that's true. During the day you'll grow crops, tend your animals, hunt, fish, cook, befriend the townsfolk, and perhaps even pursue romance. But things take a turn when the sun goes down. The game begins as you take your first steps toward a new life as a farmer in the charming little town of Gleaner Heights. "Grab your trusty tools and transform your farm into the richest field in town! Over 40 crops await for you to discover and plant them. Tend to your animals, make them happy and collect their produce! Keep them either inside the barn or make fenced perimeters outside to let them graze under the sun," the Steam Page says. Scroll down a little, though, and you'll learn that your adopted home is not quite as it seems. "Discover the haunting past of Gleaner Heights, from its early days … [Read more...] about Gleaner Heights is a retro farming sim that mixes Harvest Moon with HP Lovecraft
Do you remember the past? Lugging an entire desktop PC around to a friend’s house to set up in the spare room or basement, plug in with everyone else attending and play Red Alert 2 over LAN? Well that nostalgia-blast becomes reality at the PC Gamer Weekender, thanks to our LAN Retro Zone. In the Zone you’ll be able to play games like the aforementioned Command & Conquer Red Alert 2, as well as other stone cold classics like Battlefield 1942, Star Wars: Dark Forces and Half-Life—all multiplayer (and single-player) gems from back in the day. Recently Sega announced its partnership with Retro-Bit to manufacture classic Sega peripherals and accessories, however, it seems that the partnership might be to manufacture a Sega Retro console. The clue that Sega and Retro-Bit might be working to roll out a retro console comes from the Tweet posted by Retro-Bit. “I don’t know about you guys… but I’m interested in so SEGA updates ?”. This Tweet went live shortly before Sega posted a poll asking players about their favorite Sega Retro console. This potentially hints that Sega might be looking to develop a retro console like what Nintendo has done with NES Classic and SNES Classic. Also, Sega has announced that it will revive its dormant IPs, acquire new IPs and launch games that will be big hits. According to the company, it plans to “continue to create moving experiences” with a vision to be the game changer. The company plans to reach at least 300 billion yen in yearly sales and 30 … [Read more...] about Report: Sega Partnered With Retro-Bit For A Sega Retro Console
Here’s a (partial) list of the things that explode in the early access trailer for David Szymanski’s retro FPS Dusk: demonic cattle, soldiers, cultists, wizards, skeletal moose and a zombie ghost farmer. As in, a farmer that looks like a zombie ghost – I’m not sure what he spends his time farming. Souls, probably. Dusk released on early access last night. Dominic Tarason reports that the preview builds he’s played have excelled at scratching his old-school shooter itch, so this may well be one worth checking out. The current build features two out of the three episodes that will be included with the full game, which the devs consider “extremely polished and practically finished”, along with the Duskworld competitive multiplayer. It also includes two out of three endless arena levels, with the final arena level and campaign episode to follow in “the next few months” when the game releases proper. Mac and Linux support will follow … [Read more...] about Retro FPS Dusk strafes into early access
