Ukrainian refugee finally plays Elden Ring after funding a new PC with VTuber models

August 10, 2022 by www.pcgamer.com

Audio player loading… The day before Elden Ring's release, Nikita fled his country. Early in the morning on February 24, an airfield in his home city of Bucha, Ukraine was bombed by Russian forces. Within days, Russia had broken into the city, ransacked homes, and massacred over a thousand people (opens in new tab) , according to reporting by the BBC and other outlets covering the war. "We woke up in the morning and heard explosions. They killed a lot of people on the streets that were trying to find food," Nikita says. "People were trapped in the city for about two to three weeks without food, water and electricity. They eventually got evacuated, but it was horrible and a lot of them suffer from PTSD now." Nikita, 21, and his four family members escaped Bucha (which is about 30 km west of the capital city of Kyiv) by car and drove for the Polish border on the first day of the attack. They took alternative roads to avoid running into Russian forces. "I almost … [Read more...] about Ukrainian refugee finally plays Elden Ring after funding a new PC with VTuber models

Halo Infinite Update: Patch Changes How Armor Visors Work And More

August 9, 2022 by www.gamespot.com

343 has released the latest patch, or "drop pod," for Halo Infinite. The newest drop pod introduces several new features that many fans have been asking for and will take 2 GB or less to install. It brings changes to cosmetic items, multiplayer, menus, and more. Visors are now compatible across all armor cores. This change will apply to all the previously released visors and news ones moving forward. The Mark VII helmet has also been made compatible with several previously unavailable attachments. In addition, players can now view their challenges in-game. They'll need to pause the game, and the challenges should appear on the right-hand side. Challenge progress won't be visible during games but will be added in a future update. Here's a closer look at the full patch notes for the August drop pod: Multiplayer Players' shield volume has been reduced, even more so when they're out of sight. Choppers will no longer boost after being disabled by a Dynamo Grenade's EMP effect. … [Read more...] about Halo Infinite Update: Patch Changes How Armor Visors Work And More

Is $300M for Tomb Raider and Deus Ex really that big of a steal?

May 3, 2022 by www.pcgamer.com

When I heard that Square Enix had sold Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and three respected game studios to Embracer Group for $300 million, I instantly became that guy who knows exactly how much everything is worth but can only back up his valuations with rhetorical questions. $300 million? For Tomb Raider? And Deus Ex? Are they serious? It seems like a steal for Embracer, but in retrospect, just because my dad knows who Lara Croft is doesn't necessarily mean that the series is going to be profitable in the future. Sexy British artifact thieves are unfashionable—people want to play as miserable wretches named The Tarnished these days—and the kind of games Eidos-Montréal and Crystal Dynamics are best at making are very expensive to produce. Eidos-Montréal studio head David Anfossi said in 2018 (opens in new tab) that Shadow of the Tomb Raider cost as much as $100 million to make, and another $35 million to promote. It was half-off during Steam's Autumn Sale the same year it … [Read more...] about Is $300M for Tomb Raider and Deus Ex really that big of a steal?

Battalion 1944 studio splits with Square Enix, announces free Legacy edition coming to Steam

August 9, 2022 by www.pcgamer.com

Audio player loading… Battalion 1944 (opens in new tab) launched into early access in 2018 as a throwback to the early days of the Call of Duty games. There were some troubles, predictable for an early access game, but it seemed like a very strong start (opens in new tab) for a niche multiplayer FPS. Square Enix, which had published Battalion 1944 under its indie-focused Square Enix Collective, apparently thought so too: It acquired a 20% stake (opens in new tab) in developer Bulkhead in November 2018. Unfortunately, neither the game nor the relationship between Bulkhead and Square Enix worked out quite as hoped. Battalion 1944's average concurrent player count has been stuck in single-digits since mid-2020, a console release that was promised in a 2016 Kickstarter never happened, and today Bulkhead announced that it has "formally ended" its relationship with Square Enix. An announcement about @PlayBattalion pic.twitter.com/pvFQJx8ibz August 9, 2022 See … [Read more...] about Battalion 1944 studio splits with Square Enix, announces free Legacy edition coming to Steam
