There's a Monster Hunter movie in the works.Paul W.S. Anderson, the director of the Resident Evil movies, is at the helm, and he's working once again with Milla Jovovich.According to Variety, the Monster Hunter movie has a $60m budget and goes into production this September. It shoots in South Africa, in and around Cape Town.We don't know anything yet about what the film will be about, or how it'll adapt the loot hunt video game. But the people behind it want it to be a film series, like the Resident Evil movies turned out to be. Apparently there's a Resident Evil reboot in the works, too, but this may end up being a TV series rather than a movie. It seems like now would be as good a time as any to get a Monster Hunter movie off the ground, given the enormous success of Monster Hunter World - with a whopping 7.9m units shipped, it's Capcom's best-selling game of all time. … [Read more...] about Resident Evil film director making a Monster Hunter movie starring Milla Jovovich

2018 is continuing to be the year of Monster Hunter. Variety confirmed on Friday that the Monster Hunter movie, first revealed in late 2016, will begin production in September. The project continues to be headed by Resident Evil film franchise director Paul W.S. Anderson, but newly confirmed is the addition of Resident Evil‘s star actress, Milla Jovovich. No release window has yet been announced for Monster Hunter. Anderson and Jovovich, who are married, have worked together on many films including all six Resident Evil titles. That’s obviously no coincidence, as all Resident Evil films were made by production company Constantin Film. Like with Resident Evil, Constantin has also licensed Capcom’s Monster Hunter. Given the success of the Resident Evil films – at least the earlier ones – it’s no surprise that Constantin went out of its way to bring back both Anderson and Jovovich for this next video game adaptation.Constantin will also be … [Read more...] about Monster Hunter Movie Will Feature Resident Evil Actress

The Paul W.S. Anderson-produced Resident Evil films are somewhat less memorable than the games that inspired them, but they certainly have their moments. One of those moments is the laser hallway scene, where a team gets cleanly sliced to pieces like a pack of human cheesecakes. Now somebody’s gone and recreated that delightful bit of body horror in Far Cry 5. Check out all the best Far Cry 5 Arcade maps. The Resident Evil Hive map comes courtesy of Daemon Knight, and is available through Far Cry Arcade - though sadly, only on Xbox One. After you take a moment to lament the fact that custom maps aren’t cross-platform, do head to Reddit and check out the clip of the juicy bit. Or you can check it out directly via the Arcade. It’s sadly not quite a full recreation, since the lasers don’t do damage, but it’s an impressive visual recreation of a pretty memorable scene. Resident Evil 7 is a revolutionary game. Gone are the Hollywood set-pieces, the action-heavy gameplay, the insta-fail button prompts and the steroid-pumped super soldiers capable of smashing rocks with their bare fists. Capcom stripped the franchise back to its roots making it a great place for new players to jump in without having to dedicate whole evenings studying the franchise’s intricate lore. It’s just you, a spooky house, a handful of bullets and a load of sludgy monsters with massive teeth. What more could you want? Where it’s not so different from its predecessors, however, is from where it draws inspiration; movies. Lots and lots of horror movies. While early games in the franchise used the shambling zombie films of George A. Romero as a reference point, later entries looked to more action-orientated creature features to help get the old creative juices flowing. With Resident Evil 7, Capcom once again turned to cinema as a source of inspiration and … [Read more...] about 7 movies that inspired Resident Evil 7 (and none of them are actually Resident Evil)
