With 11 core games and 10+ side stories, figuring out the play order of the Resident Evil series can be a chore. Additionally, several games in the series have been remade, and some have multiple variations all with their own quirks. Below we’ll give our recommendation for what order you should play the Resident Evil games in, and which versions of each are the best. What Order Should I Play the Resident Evil Games In?: The Essentials If you’re just looking to get the core experience of the Resident Evil series you only need to play 8 of the 21 available games. These eight games comprise the majority of the series’ lore, and all of the side games stem from them in some way. If you’re wanting to get the core Resident Evil experience you should play in this order: Note that this is a strict chronological order except for the placement of Resident Evil 0. RE0 does take place before all the other games, but it’s not the best introduction to Resident Evil. The … [Read more...] about Resident Evil Play Order – What Order Should I Play the RE Series In?

If you have the patience to dig up a copy of Resident Evil 2 on the original PlayStation, you’ll find a landmark zombie game marred by all the familiar headaches of video games circa 1998. The camera is static; the controls, frustrating; and the story, repetitive. No wonder publisher Capcom recently opted to remake the game rather than rush another high-def remaster. The remake project, simply (albeit confusingly) titled Resident Evil 2, features a number of revisions intended to make the game more accessible, particularly for people accustomed to the amenities of modern games. At Tokyo Game Show, we spoke with producer Tsuyoshi Kanda about the specifics of those edits. From tacky shoulder pads to laughable zombies, Kanda enumerated the many aspects of the original that needed to be revised, replaced or cut altogether. And he made a surprising defense of the franchise’s later action-heavy entries, broadly seen as departures from what made the early Resident Evil games … [Read more...] about How Capcom updated Resident Evil 2 for 2019
Capcom is releasing an Umbrella Corporation-themed keyboard to coincide with the launch of the Resident Evil 2 remake. Kotaku reports that the USB keyboard will cost 75,000 yen (about $675/£530), and carry Lexington branding. It's a pretty-looking thing that I will never own. Fans of the Resident Evil games, of course, will remember that typewriters were once the series' traditional save game mechanism. That was until Resident Evil 5 introduced autosaving, which is probably the real reason that some fans think it marked the point that the mainline series got too far from its horror-based origins, until last year's Resident Evil 7. So far, it looks like the typewriter is just on-sale in Japan, through Capcom's official store. The American store, sadly, just has t-shirts for sale.Resident Evil 2's remake is out January 25, 2019. Make sure you check out the gameplay footage revealed back at E3—it's pretty serious-looking stuff compared to the slightly cheesy (but still … [Read more...] about The Resident Evil 2 remake is getting an official typewriter-themed keyboard
What is the best Resident Evil game? For a series so beloved, the core titles in Capcom’s survival horror series vary wildly in quality. With the Resident Evil 2 Remake set for release in January and looking really impressive, it’s time to look back at the main, numbered Resident Evil games and work out which ones are still worth your time. Here are the core Resident Evil games, ranked from worst to best. Resident Evil 6 An absolute mess of a game. Three separate campaigns and barely a single good idea between them, it’s bloated, far too long, and far too focused on action. Resident Evil 6 is not a survival horror game – it’s a game suffering from a serious identity crisis, resulting in this mismatch of styles. First, the good – what little of it there is. Leon Kennedy’s campaign is alright: a nighttime jaunt through a city full of the undead, this comes the closest to capturing the essence of survival horror and the pacing of Resident Evil … [Read more...] about Resident Evil – all the main Resi games ranked from worst to best
Resident Evil 7 is a revolutionary game. Gone are the Hollywood set-pieces, the action-heavy gameplay, the insta-fail button prompts and the steroid-pumped super soldiers capable of smashing rocks with their bare fists. Capcom stripped the franchise back to its roots making it a great place for new players to jump in without having to dedicate whole evenings studying the franchise’s intricate lore. It’s just you, a spooky house, a handful of bullets and a load of sludgy monsters with massive teeth. What more could you want? Where it’s not so different from its predecessors, however, is from where it draws inspiration; movies. Lots and lots of horror movies. While early games in the franchise used the shambling zombie films of George A. Romero as a reference point, later entries looked to more action-orientated creature features to help get the old creative juices flowing. With Resident Evil 7, Capcom once again turned to cinema as a source of inspiration and … [Read more...] about 7 movies that inspired Resident Evil 7 (and none of them are actually Resident Evil)
