IT sounds too good to be true - being paid to sit in front of your computer watching animal or funny viral videos on YouTube all day long. But for a group of Finnish teens who earn up to €15 (£13) an hour doing this, it’s a reality. Neverthink is a kind of online telly, set up in November 2016 by two friends from Helsinki, Aviv Junno and Claus Nurro. The pair initially started it as a side project for themselves, as they thought it “would be cool if it were possible to watch YouTube and Reddit like you would TV.” On the Neverthink site, you can choose one of 32 channels to watch (like "Food", "Documentaries", "Comedy", "Fails" or "Memes") and you get served up an endless playlist of YouTube videos around that theme. It's just like TV - you can't fast forward or skip videos, and the channels always play a constant stream of clips, back to back. If you get bored of what you're watching you can just hop between the channels to find something else. Like its source material, Steven Spielberg’s dystopian virtual reality adventure Ready Player One is steeped in references to pop culture from the past century, from King Kong to Donkey Kong. We already know that the film based on Ernest Cline’s 2011 book includes cameos drawn from source material like Back to the Future, Halo, Hello Kitty, The Iron Giant, Overwatch and Gundam, but is Knack — PlayStation’s Knack — in the movie? There have been published reports that Knack, star of PlayStation 4 launch game Knack and last year’s Knack 2, will appear in the chaotic battle scenes of Ready Player One. He’s apparently joined by characters from other PlayStation properties like Kratos from God of War, Nathan Drake from Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet’s Sackboy, according to pre-release reports. But the movie’s wiki, hosted by Fandom, is currently on lockdown because of vandalism. Fans and trolls have battled via the wiki about Ready Player … [Read more...] about Is Knack really in the Ready Player One movie?
Rockstar might not have officially announced Grand Theft Auto 6, but there’s no doubt that it’s in development. Don’t expect official confirmation until after Red Dead Redemption 2 hits shelves on October 26, 2018, with GTA 6 unlikely to release until 2020 or beyond. As absurd as it might sound to speculate about the next Grand Theft Auto game, there’s solid historical precedent to build on if you apply the principles of a predictive technique called the Fermi problem – more on that later. We’ll use this article to provide you our best guess on GTA 6’s setting, release date, structure and more, with regular updates. What has Rockstar said about GTA 6 on the record? Rockstar North’s former President teased the next series entry back in 2013 in a four-part interview with Develop magazine, which got the online rumour mill started: “We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas,” said Benzies in the … [Read more...] about Everything we know about GTA 6 so far – and how predictive science might help us plot the future of Rockstar’s open-world series
Oculus subreddit subscribers are leaving the discussion board after Palmer Luckey was named as a moderator, with many concerned that Luckey's introduction will introduce a wave of alt-right supporters to the page. The r/Oculus Reddit page has over 100,000 subscribers, making it the most popular virtual reality subreddits on the site. Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey has an active user of the subreddit since its inception, though he left the VR headset manufacturer's parent company Facebook in early 2017. Now Oculus's moderation team have announced that Luckey is the subreddit's latest mod, with Luckey having personally approached them in order to request that he be given the position. "It's hard to find anyone with more experience and insights in the VR industry as well as a deep understanding of where /r/oculus is coming from," the statement from the r/Oculus mod team reads. "We were always happy to count Palmer as one of our earliest and most active community members. So … [Read more...] about Oculus Reddit Up in Arms After Palmer Luckey is Made a Moderator
According to new details published in games magazine Edge, Media Molecules' astonishingly ambitious PS4 title Dreams will let players create and share their own PSVR games. Late last year, Sony confirmed that Dreams would include "limited" PSVR support, but Edge's new cover feature (as spotted by Reddit) is more specific. It states that Create mode - the portion of Dreams that lets players build environments and objects, and turn them into game-like experiences - will be fully compatible with PSVR. As such, not only will it be possible to create VR experiences, other people's virtual reality dreams will be playable too. However, the magazine reiterates earlier reports that VR support won't be available at launch, but will instead arrive "at some point in the future". Edge also notes that Media Molecule understandably has plans in place to prevent creations featuring graphic violence or sexual content from being shared online. Algorithmic curation, Sony's tools, and a "willing … [Read more...] about Media Molecules’ Dreams will let you build and share your own PSVR games
