About this blog Development of the Firework Factory game Entries in this blog Hi all, The main project for this weekend was to get powerups tied to an actual level in the game, which i have now got working as in the video below: With this out of the way I have decided to progress onto the next feature of the game which requires development. This is the level select page, which you are presented with if you have previously unlocked any levels in the game, letting you revisit and replay them to get better scores and collect extra powerups. Within the menu, each level should have a preview image, or thumbnail, showing its appearance to allow for visual memory of which level is which. This was previously implemented on the .NET version of Firework Factory, as can be seen below: In the newer unreal engine version this must be re-implemented. In the previous version, screenshots were taken by spawning the entire level, taking a screen capture of the level and storing that in a … [Read more...] about Firework Factory Development Journal

We love video-games. Games are fun. They can take you to far-off worlds and let you shoot down entire space fleets; they allow you to find ways to save mankind or ways to quash it, and they let you play the hero, or the villain. The 50 best FPS games ever
What are the best FPS games? It’s a hotly debated topic, and one that, once the debate initiated, made the VG247 office erupt in an impromptu nerf war. Luckily, when the dust settled, we managed to land on our top 50. Just so you can have a bit on insight into our process, here’s how we narrowed them down. First off, we favoured new stuff over older games. While you will find a few retro shooters in this list, we prioritised newer releases simply because they hold up better today. GoldenEye might be a classic – and it still made our list – but it controls like a shopping trolley with a broken wheel. Likewise, we thought about how to classify an FPS and decided on the simplest measure: a video game that plays from the first-person perspective and contains guns. That’s why you’ll also find this list stuffed with the odd immersive sim. Sorry. Other than that, we just had the near-impossible task of ranking them all, and no doubt you’ll disagree … [Read more...] about The 50 best FPS games ever
Cel-shaded PUBG, ’70s Truck Sim and zinester Assassin’s Creed with new Nvidia tool
Post-processing tools for games aren’t new – hello Reshade and SweetFX – but the world of dramatically altering a PC game’s appearance with what could loosely be described as real-time Instragram filters has always been a scrappy wild west. Nvidia have this week built themselves a governor’s mansion on this new frontier, introducing a feature called ‘Freestyle‘ to the GeForce Experience suite of game optimisation, streaming and screenshotting tools. It might lack the open source and community-driven scope of ReShade, but it’s easier and slicker to use on the games that support it – and the results can be dramatic. Gimmicky, sure, but making a game you’re otherwise tiring of into a neon fever-dream can be a real shot in the arm. Presenting for your wide-eyed delectation and howling disapproval – Plunkbat: The Animated Series, Assassin’s Creed Oranges: Vice City and American Truck Simulator: Grindhouse Edition. … [Read more...] about Cel-shaded PUBG, ’70s Truck Sim and zinester Assassin’s Creed with new Nvidia tool
