He’s been dispatched to dozens of fight calls before, and typically they turn out to be nonevents — nobody is present, or it’s just an accident that gets quickly resolved. He rides with his fiancée, paramedic Renee Loire. It’s nice to have some company on the drive, he says, and if someone is hurt, Loire will be there to patch them up. Cone pulls his car up to the ping on the map, and is immediately met with a hail of gunfire that rips into the vehicle. He’s down.
