Quality assurance workers are frequently among the most mistreated within the industry – both overworked and underpaid, and often treated as expendable when a project comes to an end. This isn’t a new revelation by any means, as for years testers across the industry have shared their stories about working in QA. The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain even stated one of their goals was to tackle zero-hour contracts in QA, which is frequently cited as an issue in Glassdoor reviews. Both EGM and Kotaku have written about what testing games for a living is really like, and Kotaku has reported more specifically on how testers at Treyarch were treated. When covering the crunch at Rockstar, Eurogamer also touched on the struggles QA testers faced working on Red Dead Redemption 2. These are just a few of the prominent and all-too common stories that highlight how underappreciated the role can feel – and it’s exactly the sentiment multiple former Paradox testers … [Read more...] about Paradox Interactive’s QA staff allege poor treatment, low pay, and mismanaged layoffs

I don’t believe you could play as an African ruler and come away with an understanding of what it was like there a thousand years ago. I also don’t think that people should be grateful for any representation at all even if it’s poor. But I think Crusader Kings 3 does a good job of representing, not just including, Africa as a place full of cooks, poets, drunks, warriors, masons, priests, inbred kings, and big gay cancer patients like anywhere else. I haven’t found the specialised depth I was hoping for (and didn’t really expect to), but nor do I feel like I’m just playing as England with African names. It makes West Africa as interesting to play in as anywhere else. The chiefs of Yorubaland have immensely improved my week. They’re an excellent place to start out. … [Read more...] about I test the reigns down in Africa: A Crusader Kings 3 diary

The SSD storage will be required for Xbox Series X-only games, though you'll still be able to use your Xbox One's external hard drives. These external hard drives can be used to store and play backward-compatible games from the Xbox One X, Xbox One S, Xbox 360, and original Xbox. You can also store Series X games on these external hard drives and then transfer them to Series X storage to be played. Speaking of, every game playable on an Xbox One is also playable on the Xbox Series X. Microsoft also said that there won't be any Xbox Series X-exclusives for the first year or two; Xbox One owners will also be able to play Microsoft's new games for the next couple years. … [Read more...] about Xbox Series X And Series S: Where To Preorder, Price, And More
There's one thing that Intel's Comet Lake platform doesn't have, and that's support for PCIe 4.0. Even on its latest platform Intel is still stuck supporting PCIe 3.0. And, in case you didn't know, this is one of the benefits of moving over to AMD's Zen 2 architecture. Well, that and the fact that you get more cores for your cash. Gaming performance is slightly lower, but in tests at 1080p you're talking less than a 10 percent difference most of the time, and as you move up in resolution, the difference gets ever narrower. … [Read more...] about Should you upgrade your CPU for top Nvidia Ampere performance?
