The last Need for Speed title was released about two years ago in 2017, Need for Speed Payback (Our Review), and it didn’t quite so well, to put it mildly. It made sense that Electronic Arts decided to take 2018 off and work on a new Need for Speed game that will put the franchise back on track. Today, the Need for Speed Team has just announced a new game to be released later this year, with a post on the EA Answers forum, detailing on what fans of the franchise can expect.Although Electronic Arts had already announced earlier this year in their Q3 FY19 Financial Results, that they intended to “deliver new Plants vs. Zombies and Need for Speed titles,” there were no details shared. The NFS Team Answers post also doesn’t share any details, but they did announce that the franchise is turning 25 this year, and it seems the anniversary is motivating the team to work harder on the next title, as they want to kick off 2020 with a bang: “Our goal is to … [Read more...] about New Need For Speed Announced But It Won’t Be At E3

A new Need For Speed game is coming in 2019. One of the oldest racing game franchises will soon be celebrating their 25th anniversary, and what better way to do that than by releasing a brand new game for millions of fans around the world to enjoy? It’s always been fun to dive into the underground world of street racing and we won’t have to wait too long before we get to do it again: the next game is expected to arrive sometime before the end of 2019. A submission on the /r/needforspeed subreddit opens by updating us on what the devs have been doing in recent months. They confirm that they are indeed working on a new Need For Speed game, corroborating earlier reports that we would be getting a new game before the year is out. Sadly, we probably won’t be hearing anything at this year’s E3. “Are you going to hear more about the next NFS title? Yes,” the Reddit submission stated. “Is it being released this year? Yes. Will … [Read more...] about New Need For Speed game confirmed for 2019 release
No, not that one. This one. Confusingly known in North America as Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit, this 1998 racer was a steel-blue feast of dropdown menus infested with cars. Click on one of these three-dimensional motorbeasts to hear the silky voice of every US infomercial telling you about horsepower and gear boxes and how the Alfa Romeo Scighera “embraces dynamic new design influences.” Oh yes, that’s the good stuff. That’s some good cars right there. But Hot Pursuit got its name from its best feature: police officers. These cop cars were always in the Need for Speed series in some way. Here, they patrolled the highways and caught you speeding down country roads. They gave chase and chattered over the radio in an effort to cut you off and put you to justice. Another mode let you play as the cop, but that was never as fun as outrunning Johnny Law Wheels yourself, dodging road blocks and ignoring traffic. And when you did get caught driving dangerously fast, … [Read more...] about Have You Played… Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit?
Electronic Arts may have suffered a disappointing financial quarter, but at least the company has games in two fan-favorite series coming within the next fiscal year. EA chief operating and financial officer Blake Jorgenson announced to investors that new Plants vs. Zombies and Need for Speed games are in the works, due out by April 2020. “We’re making adjustments to improve execution and we’re refocusing R&D,” Jorgenson said in a news release attached to EA’s third-quarter fiscal 2019 earnings. “Looking forward, we’re delighted to launch Anthem, our new IP, to grow Apex Legends and related Titanfall experiences, to deliver new Plants vs. Zombies and Need for Speed titles, and to add Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to our sports titles in the fall.” This is the first mention of new entries in the puzzle and racing franchises, respectively, and they’ve been a long time coming: Plants vs. Zombies’ most recent console release … [Read more...] about EA’s not done with Need for Speed, Plants vs. Zombies — new games on the way
