Buy it on Gameswamp Game Dev Tycoon has given Nate happy memories of developing fictional games with perfectly plausible names (Wolf Strangler, Triumph of the Blood Lads). For me that joy was captured in Software Inc. In this tycoon game, you can spend a decade working on the most ambitious videogame ever conceived, only for it to become an astounding commercial failure. It’s a familiar setup. You have to build an office, hire workers, and fiddle with menus and buttons to coerce your hunching employees into creating reasonably titled point ‘n’ clicks like “Tragic Bootcamp Adventure” or music games such as “Krumpstep Megastar”. I spent years producing a technical marvel called “Kimberly Funes Kills America”, a first-person shooter masterpiece and part of an established franchise. It sold two copies. It’s a good thing your business is not limited to games, otherwise I would have been bankrupt after this disaster. No, … [Read more...] about Have You Played… Software Inc?

Nintendo unveiled what it calls a “new interactive experience” for Nintendo Switch today that’s unlike anything else on the console. Called Nintendo Labo, it’s a “new line of interactive build-and-play experiences that combine DIY creations with the magic of Nintendo Switch,” according to Nintendo. Labo will let Nintendo Switch owners build cardboard versions of real-world items like a 13-key piano, fishing rod or motorbike. Nintendo calls those cardboard creations Toy-Cons. And, by inserting Joy-Con controllers into those Toy-Cons, players will be able to play games themed to the cardboard creations. “With each Nintendo Labo kit, kids can transform modular sheets of cardboard – specially designed to interact with the Nintendo Switch console and Joy-Con controllers — into creations called Toy-Con,” Nintendo said. “As you build, you will have fun discovering how the technology works, and might even invent new ways to … [Read more...] about Nintendo reveals Labo, a DIY ‘build-and-play experience’ for Switch

Dark Souls was what really catapulted From Software into the spotlight after Demon’s Souls, and gave rise to the Soulsborne genre as it got more popular. The game is seen as a classic of the last console generation, and now it being remastered and brought to the current generation will probably be a boon for both newcomers and veterans. The original games didn’t have cross-platform play either, but with the ability to play between two different consoles finding success in games like Rocket League and Minecraft, some gamers were likely hoping that Dark Souls would follow the same path. However, that’s not the case. Often, Sony and Microsoft haven’t seen eye … [Read more...] about Dark Souls Remastered Cross Platform Play Will Not Be Happening
"It's just cardboard!" Cut up some cardboard from a random box and try to do the stuff that NIntendo is doing with Labo. I also love how people forget that there is actual software behind the cardboard too. I don't have any particular interest in Labo myself, but I do find the whole "lol it's just cardboard"stuff to be a gross exaggeration. … [Read more...] about Nintendo Showcasing a new way to play on Switch today.
