HP to acquire HyperX for $245m

· February 24, 2021 ·

HP has announced its intention to acquire HyperX , the gaming division of Kingston Technology. HyperX is responsible for a range of gaming peripherals, including keyboards, mice, microphones, and most famously headsets. Its Cloud gaming headsets have been strong contenders in our best gaming headset guide , where it tends to punch well above its pricing. HP's justification for the purchase shouldn't come as too much of a shock to us PC gamers, as it's built on the prediction that the PC hardware industry will be worth $70 billion by 2023, and that, "The global peripherals market is expected to grow to $12.2 billion by 2024, with gaming peripherals representing a disproportionate share of this growth." HP will pay $245 million for HyperX, and the deal is expected to be completed by Q2 2021. It's worth noting that Kingston will keep making DRAM, flash, and SSD products for gamers, so we won't be saying goodbye to Kingston, although it's through its peripheral division that … [Read more...] about HP to acquire HyperX for $245m

Valheim’s strengths lie in cosiness, co-operation and small huts

· February 23, 2021 ·

"Alright warrior," Valheim's raven narrator Hugin told me when I first booted up the game. "Odin's counting on you to slay a bunch of horrible creatures then ascend to Valhalla. It's a perilous journey and you'll need to arm yourself properly to defeat the Forsaken. Are you up for the task?" "Sure, sure," I said in reply. "But those small huts over there look kinda cute." If you hadn't yet guessed, I've spent most of my time in Valheim simply building and renovating small cabins. The survival game is split into several biomes, each with its own unique enemies and materials, but it took me at least 15 hours to leave the first - and I've once again found myself constructing tiny homes in the second. Whenever I stumble across ruins I feel obligated to fix them up, like some sort of Viking real estate show. I'm calling it Homes Under Thor's Hammer. I almost began to feel guilty for delaying exploration to satisfy my building obsession, until I realised Valheim actively encourages … [Read more...] about Valheim’s strengths lie in cosiness, co-operation and small huts

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Coming To PS5, Xbox Series X, And Nintendo Switch This Year

· February 24, 2021 ·

Shortly after rumors began swirling, Activision has confirmed that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch this year. The PlayStation and Xbox versions arrive on March 26, while the Switch edition doesn't have a specific release date but is confirmed for 2021. Activision is promising a "variety of upgrades," including 120FPS/1080p and 60FPS/4K visuals, along with spatial audio and other enhancements for the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox versions. The Switch edition, meanwhile, won't have these impressive frame rates and graphics, it seems, but the big appeal is you can play it on the go. Nintendo has sometimes gotten exclusive Tony Hawk games over the years, but the Switch's more standard control scheme makes the game a good fit. "High-fidelity atmospherics will be added to the next-gen upgrade for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2," reads a line from its description. "This unique graphical feature will allow players to … [Read more...] about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Coming To PS5, Xbox Series X, And Nintendo Switch This Year
