Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, Space Harrier, and many other games, is releasing his latest, Air Twister, via Apple Arcade on June 24. Ahead of its release, we spent some time with the game and even had the chance to speak with Suzuki through a translator about the dream-like experience wherein you ride giant swans across alien landscapes. Suzuki confirmed some of the game's details--like protagonist Princess Arch’s size and what classic children’s novel served as the game’s main inspiration--and talked about how much he enjoyed one of GameSpot’s top 10 games of 2021 , It Takes Two. I've been playing Air Twister and it is bizarre. Is that how you thought people would react to it? Yu Suzuki: I didn't really know what people would expect. I just made the game. That's normal for me. Air Twister feels a bit like you're playing an interactive dream. Was that the intention? Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment. Yeah, not particularly. I wasn't really thinking that … [Read more...] about Shenmue Creator Yu Suzuki Explains The Giant Flying Swans Of Air Twister

Final Fantasy 7 Remake community got baited by a toddler
Final Fantasy 7 Remake's community just got baited in the worst way - by a toddler. Earlier this week, the tweet just below gained huge traction online, as one user noticed a red ring seemingly orbiting the Buster Sword on Final Fantasy 7 Remake's opening start screen. Users began speculating that this was a prelude to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth , announced just last week, which prominently featured red text among its key art. Holy heck, and now this Rebirth colour effect has been added to the title screen when you boot up Final Fantasy VII Remake. pic.twitter.com/EVRIzD0upn June 23, 2022 See more However, it wasn't to be. The same Twitter user who made the initial supposed discovery then updated his Twitter account later that same day - it turns out his toddler had lobbed a toy at the TV screen, causing it to give off the unusual red circle emanating around Cloud's Buster Sword, instead of the actual game doing it deliberately. Folks, I’m so sorry. False … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy 7 Remake community got baited by a toddler

Canceled Scarface 2 game looks extremely 2009 in new footage of prototype
New footage of canceled open-world game Scarface: Empire, the sequel to 2006's Scarface: The World is Yours, has popped up online. Mafia Game Videos (opens in new tab) , an aptly named Youtube channel dedicated to games about the mafia, shared a few minutes of Scarface: Empire footage in a recent video, fleshing out some ideas and environments spotted in recently unearthed (opens in new tab) concept art. The premise of the game, according to one former developer cited in the video, was that series lead Tony Montana moved his cocaine empire to Las Vegas as Miami drug regulations got stricter. Scarface: Empire saw Tony build his own Vegas casino to circumvent the local mob and provide a front for his new drug ring, taking out mob big-wigs behind the scenes to grease the wheels. We can see some of that concept in action in these brief gameplay snippets. The footage is taken from an incomplete build, but even at this stage, it looks like a competent enough … [Read more...] about Canceled Scarface 2 game looks extremely 2009 in new footage of prototype

Hogwarts Legacy fan discovers DLC packs and extras inside website code
A Hogwarts Legacy fan has discovered possible DLC packs and extras tucked away inside the game's official website. Hogwarts Legacy is set to release sometime towards the end of 2022, but so far, the exact date that we’ll be able to enrol in the infamous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry remains a mystery. Set in the 1800s, the game will see familiar faces like Harry, Ron and Hermione swapped for a whole new cast of characters. With no official news since Sony’s State of Play presentation in March, an eagle-eyed Reddit user has done some digging and discovered what appears to be a list of additional content for Hogwarts Legacy. The list seemingly includes DLC packs and extra items which are thought to be included in certain additions of the game or as pre-order bonuses. As well as digital goodies, the list also makes mention of physical extras such as a steel case and a “Floating Ancient Magic Wand with Book”. Reddit user opalelement shared their findings on the … [Read more...] about Hogwarts Legacy fan discovers DLC packs and extras inside website code
Elden Ring and Dark Souls developer says it’s working on “multiple new projects”
Elden Ring and Dark Souls developer FromSoftware says that it's hiring for "multiple new projects." In a tweet (opens in new tab) posted earlier today (translated via Microsoft), the studio said that it had "started recruiting staff for a wide range of positions for multiple new projects," and directed prospective candidates to its careers page. That page suggests that new staff will be at the "core" of several new projects, and lists a wide array of roles, including game design, programming, art design, and animation. It's difficult to get a full sense of what the studio is working on from these listings, but it's worth noting that the Game Planner (opens in new tab) role suggests that the projects are early in development, asking staff to "verbalize ideas and concepts and create the core part of the game." FromSoft is also hiring a Research and Development (opens in new tab) role, aiming to "raise the level of development capabilities" within the studio. … [Read more...] about Elden Ring and Dark Souls developer says it’s working on “multiple new projects”
Skate 4 Could Bring Back User-Created Content
Skate 4 is finally in the works , and while we're yet to see any gameplay footage, we've got some minor insights into what it might look like. While current EA job ads don't show much, EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently talked about the game in an EA fireside chat , and it's given us a few things to work with. Wilson talked about how enthusiastic people were for a new Skate, and dropped some hints at features the game might contain. He said that while skateboarding "in and of itself has tremendous appeal to a huge, global audience," Skate will also tap into a "trend that’s happening inside our industry around user-generated content, open-world, and interaction." Reflecting on skateboard culture, and how much art and fashion tie into it, Wilson said that while skating itself was a "starting point" there's more to it than that. "You start to build in user-generated content, exploration, and community on top of that and that expands the opportunity exponentially," he said. Skate 3 … [Read more...] about Skate 4 Could Bring Back User-Created Content
How COVID-19 Is Impacting EA’s Business
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more people are staying home and playing video games. As such, spending on gaming has grown, and Electronic Arts is among the companies that is benefitting. In a new "fireside chat," EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said the company is expected to announce its biggest-ever Q1, which runs April-June. EA said in May that it expects to make $5.525 billion in revenue and a profit of $978 million for the period, which is a record for Q1, but Jorgensen said that the real numbers will be even bigger than that. The full numbers will be announced during EA's earnings report on July 30, but Jorgensen said today, "What I will tell you is it has been much stronger than we anticipated." EA plans to release some of its marquee upcoming games--FIFA 21, Madden NFL 21, and NHL 21--a little later than usual due to the impact of working from home and other issues connected to COVID-19. However, Jorgensen said EA will make up the differences through new campaigns that push … [Read more...] about How COVID-19 Is Impacting EA’s Business
