Audio player loading… The Xbox Adaptive Controller has proven itself a tremendously useful device for anyone with limited mobility to game without compromise. So much so that Nintendo may have been eyeing up its own version of the accessibility controller, with a view to making it platform agnostic. Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has spoken about the possibility of such a controller in an interview with Inverse (opens in new tab) (via TechRadar (opens in new tab) ). "Imagine an adaptive controller that you could play with your latest Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo platform. That's what we were working on three years ago." Fils-Aimé left Nintendo in 2019 and cannot say for sure whether Nintendo still has hopes of creating such a controller. He notes that he would like to see it reach the market sooner rather than later, however. "My hope is that the effort has continued. I'm not sure if it has or has not," Fils-Aimé says. "But … [Read more...] about Nintendo was working on its own cross-platform version of the Xbox Adaptive Controller

The Hori Flex takes PC gaming’s most accessible controller and brings it to Nintendo Switch
Audio player loading… Image Image Image Image Japanese accessory manufacturer, Hori, is taking the best parts of the Xbox Adaptive Controller (opens in new tab) , the fantastic accessibility device for PC and Xbox, and reimagining it for the Nintendo Switch. In one fell swoop Hori is opening up arguably the least accessible console around to a much wider audience. The HORI Flex (opens in new tab) (via NintendoLife (opens in new tab) , sam-eatlab (opens in new tab) ) is a device much like the Xbox Adaptive Controller (XAC) in that it allows for a wide range of external inputs to be plugged into it in order to emulate the included-in-the-box controller button map. For the XAC, that offers inputs matching the Xbox One controller. For the HORI Flex, it's the full sweep of Nintendo Switch inputs ready to be utilised. That means the Nintendo Switch is able to be used with a much … [Read more...] about The Hori Flex takes PC gaming’s most accessible controller and brings it to Nintendo Switch
Intel production halted in Sichuan China due to 60-year-high heatwave
Audio player loading… China's Sichuan province has had to make some tough decisions in face of the most intense heatwave in 60 years. The three-level power supply control measures now in place have seen giants like Intel closing factories in order for the province to keep up with its rising air conditioner usage. What does that mean for us? Higher chip prices in the future, potentially. For now, though, the important thing is trying to keep the Chinese population alive . Already one of the warmest regions, Sichuan is now competing with soaring 40°C (104°F) temperatures, as well as the least rain recorded in decades. It's meant a frightening lack of water in reservoirs for hydropower. As such, China's having a hard time keeping up with the demand coming from the power grid, especially since usage has spiked so violently as its inhabitants' try to keep cool in the heat. "The power supply situation in the province is extremely tense," Sichuan Daily (opens in new … [Read more...] about Intel production halted in Sichuan China due to 60-year-high heatwave
Magic’s next set brings back Legends in a big way
Audio player loading… Magic: the Gathering is starting the celebration for its 30th anniversary early at the end of this summer, and what better way to celebrate the past then going back to it? With Magic's next set Dominaria United—slated for release on September 9—the game returns to its home plane in the Magic multiverse for the first time since 2018's Dominaria. The story for the new set starts on August 10, and involves the planeswalker Karn peering back through the history of Dominaria. Wizards also says it will be spread "across four sets," though it's not clear if that means there are more Dominaria-focused sets in the near future besides The Brothers War, which is coming this November. But more exciting than the set itself is what Wizards of the Coast has decided to put inside Collector's booster packs. Legends itself was a critical set for Magic, garnering a 1994 GAMA award for best game accessory and introducing everything from the legendary type and … [Read more...] about Magic’s next set brings back Legends in a big way
Nintendo Reportedly Planning Smaller Switch Packaging
Fans of video game packaging can prepare to get their hands on a new Nintendo-branded box soon, as the Switch will soon be sold in a cardboard container that shrinks the packaging size down by roughly 20%. According to Nikkei , the box redesign for the original Switch model will help move consoles around the world more efficiently and improve the company's bottom line by using fewer materials. In comparison, the Switch OLED Model happens to ship in a box that's already 14% smaller than the regular version's box, so Nintendo has likely taken a few design cues from it. The OLED Model also switches the general orientation of the Switch packaging to a more vertical format, as opposed to the horizontal design of the regular Switch box. This isn't the first time that Nintendo has slimmed down the packaging for its hardware, as its handheld 3DS and 2DS consoles switched from a bulky box when they first launched to a smaller container as the years went on.
