CYBER CRIME Facebook groups where members buy and sell the credit card numbers of fraud victims and share other online crime tips have been uncovered by a report. A total of 74 groups have been found so far and they contain around 385,000 members. Security researchers from Cisco's Talos Intelligence Group uncovered the groups which were buying, selling and trading stolen credit card information and identity information like photographic ID. The group members were also providing each other with information about email phishing and other illegal activities. Apparently the groups were quite easy to find so the researchers started referring to them as an "online criminal flea market". They had names like 'Spam Professional' and 'Facebook hack (Phishing)' and could appear to any user if they searched those terms or words like 'CVV' or 'carding'. One of the groups featured a user who was claiming to be selling a spam kit that delivered fake Apple invoices to Hotmail and Yahoo email … [Read more...] about More than 300,000 cyber criminals are selling your credit card details on Facebook, experts warn

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate passed a sweeping criminal justice bill Tuesday that addresses concerns that the nation's war on drugs had led to the imprisonment of too many Americans for non-violent crimes without adequately preparing them for their return to society.Senate passage of the bill by a vote of 87-12 culminates years of negotiations and gives President Donald Trump a signature policy victory, with the outcome hailed by scores of conservative and liberal advocacy groups. The House is expected to pass the bill this week, sending it to the president's desk for his signature. The bill gives judges more discretion when sentencing some drug offenders and boosts prisoner rehabilitation efforts. It also reduces the life sentence for some drug offenders with three convictions, or "three strikes," to 25 years. Another provision would allow about 2,600 federal prisoners sentenced for crack cocaine offenses before August 2010 the opportunity to petition for a reduced penalty. 13 … [Read more...] about Senate overwhelmingly passes criminal justice reform bill
While Community Restorative Court is aimed specifically at young offenders, the goals behind it and other Dane County treatment and diversion programs are generally the same: Fix the underlying personal problems that lead people to commit crimes, and limit costly and often counter-productive incarceration.Local officials are further motivated by the desire to reduce the disproportionate number of black people who get caught up in the criminal justice system, as well as a recently approved jail renovation that will reduce the number of jail beds by 91, or 9 percent. But it’s hard to know how effective such well-meaning efforts are, given that the largest and longest-running program, the district attorney’s Deferred Prosecution Unit, or DPU, doesn’t track outcomes, while others have kept only limited data and some evaluations show mixed results. How many people complete their contracts with the DPU and how many of them re-offend are data points “not regularly kept … [Read more...] about Information limited on success of programs aimed at keeping low-level criminals out of jail
Next month, Grand Theft Auto 5 celebrates its third birthday on PC. And yet, despite its age, the open world crime simulator attracted record player numbers last year—driven by GTA Online's Doomsday Heist, which launched on December 12, 2017. Two days later, Rockstar rolled out the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack. Promising new players a leg up in Los Santos for £40/$40, I picked up the multiplayer welcome bundle and raised a single profile from level 16 to 85 in just short of five weeks. I maxed out my character's skill stats and earned a small fortune along the way, but sunk dozens of hours into the game during this time. Is the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack worth your money, then? Or would grinding free-of-charge, or picking up select Shark Cash Cards yield the same (or better) results? As you might expect, that depends on how you approach GTA Online. Let's take a closer look. What do you get? Rockstar bills the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack as … [Read more...] about Is GTA Online’s Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack worth $40?
Milk Wars, a crossover between the Justice League of America and the Doom Patrol, is almost impossible to explain, and when you do, it sounds like a parody of superhero comics. And yet, here I am, saying to a general audience: You should try Milk Wars, starting with Justice League of America/Doom Patrol #1. If you’re going to be confused by an intricate superhero universe no matter which one you dive into, you may as well get confused by one that’s deliberately strange — and one that will get you to be so invested in its story. But first, don’t confuse the Justice League of America with the Justice League — the JLA is the second stringers, the misfits and greenhorns and reformed criminals, thrown together by Batman and then abandoned when he got too busy (With Dark Nights: Metal, but thats another story). The Doom Patrol get mixed up in it all after an extra-physical corporation called Retconn starts conditioning Earth-Prime (the setting of the main DC … [Read more...] about The Justice League/Doom Patrol crossover should be the comic you read this week
