Codemaster’s Grid reboot was announced earlier this year and targeted a September release, but it appears that some more time in the pit stop has turned out to be needed. The newly announced Grid delay means it won’t release until October 11th, almost a month after the previously announced release date.In their blog post, Codemasters says the reason for the change in release date is to give added exposure to the Grid reboot as they were happy with the reception the game received at E3, where they won multiple awards. The Grid delay doesn’t change the fact that the game will be available three days earlier for ultimate edition purchasers – meaning they will get access to Grid on October 8th. For those who aren’t familiar, Grid is a reboot of one of Codemasters racing series and it promises the ability to choose your own path in each race. The game features a nemesis system, that if you run into a racer too many times they will … [Read more...] about Codemaster’s Grid Delay Holds Up Release Until October

In March, Polygon received an invitation to visit Treyarch, one of Activision’s most prolific studios. The invitation was fairly straightforward: Come to Santa Monica, California, for a full day. Talk with one of the teams working on Call of Duty, one of the world’s biggest video game franchises, and tell their story. But Treyarch’s story is more than just the story of Black Ops, the popular subfranchise that the studio created. It’s also the story of the Zombies game mode, a whole other subfranchise that Treyarch helped introduce to the world — one that’s now a staple of every modern Call of Duty release. At the same time, it’s the story of how a group of specialized game developers put its own spin on Call of Duty’s multiplayer, a popular mode and a competitive esport in its own right. It turns out that Treyarch’s story isn’t one single story at all. In actuality, it’s three stories rolled into one. Moneyball My day … [Read more...] about Meet the studio behind Call of Duty: Black Ops and Zombies mode

Sonic the Hedgehog was the first video game character featured as a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In 1993, arguably at the height of the Sega mascot’s popularity, the Sonic balloon soared above New York City until it neared Columbus Circle at the Southwest corner of Central Park. There it struck a light pole. The balloon ruptured and deflated, causing minor injuries to a child and an off-duty police officer standing below. The next year, the balloon reappeared, repaired and ready to fly once more. It successfully completed the parade’s route and Katie Couric noted on NBC’s live coverage of the event that she and co-host Willard Scott were happy to see Sonic doing well after running into some turbulence the year prior. In 1995, the year Sega released its Sega Saturn console in North America, the balloon struck another light pole. Then in 1997, the balloon hit a third light pole and deflated once again. The parade retired the balloon, keeping it … [Read more...] about Sonic the Hedgehog’s long, great, rocky history
