NetherRealm Studios has a lineage that goes all the way back to Midway Games in the 1980s. The team, best known for the Mortal Kombat series as well as the DC universe’s Injustice fighting games, has had its offices on Chicago’s north side for nearly a decade. That sense of permanence has allowed it to refine its animation and art style in ways that other studios can only dream of. The result, shown in the clip above from the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11, is something extraordinary. According to producer Shawn Himmerick, one of the biggest assets is NetherRealm’s building. It used to be a bank and, as such, it’s built like a brick shithouse. But it’s also home to a few unusual features. For instance, it’s got a vault with walls several feet thick. So, the team converted it into a one-of-a-kind recording studio. From there they can capture original voice over, or direct actors in recording studios remotely all around the world. In a small room just off … [Read more...] about Mortal Kombat 11 looks amazing thanks to NetherRealm’s new performance capture tech
Spiderman PS4 is a standout exclusive title under development at Insomniac Games. Yet, Ed Boon wanted to show how the game would have looked like if the NetherRealm Studios made it. And the friendly neighboorhood Spiderman is nowhere near friendly in the NetherRealm’s version. We got to see this violent side to Spiderman PS4 after Ed Boon posted a video on his Twitter feed. Needless to say, once you see the video you get all kinds of questions in your head. The first of which is the violent side to the Marvel’s superhero. The video features an unchanged fighting sequence from Spiderman PS4 with added clips. The scenes made by NetherRealm show us the enemies getting beat into no flesh and full skeletons. It shows each attack in MK style X-Ray where players could see the bones getting crushed. From ribs to the skull every part breaks in the most brutal manner. Although Spiderman PS4 had an original script Insomniac never altered the superhero’s core, NetherRealm … [Read more...] about Netherrealm’s Spiderman PS4 Doesn’t Care About The “No Killing Rule”
The time for a new fighting installment to release from NetherRealm Studios draws near. Whether it is going to be a new Mortal Kombat or not remains to be seen but suffice to say, it would be very surprising if it was something else. Taking to Twitter earlier today, creative director Ed Boon stated that the studio is “working very hard” on its next project. He shared an image of two actors in motion-capture suits taking fighting stances, with a simulation running on a screen in the back and a third person providing directions. Boon further added that development is still ongoing and there is nothing more to divulge right now. The fact is that NetherRealm Studios has been relatively quiet as of late. It skipped out on making any announcements at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 2018) and the Evolution Championship Series (EVO 2018) in the past few months. Whatever the developer is cooking behind closed doors appears to be more ambitious than the usual installments. … [Read more...] about NetherRealm Studios Teases New Game in the Works — Mortal Kombat 11?
While Injustice 2 has included a slew of wonderful fan favorites from the DC Universe and fantastic guest characters from other franchises as post-launch content, it’s safe to say that the forthcoming addition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – who are fighting as one – is by far the most exciting prospect for DLC yet. While fighting game aficionados patiently wait for NetherRealm Studios to release a trailer showcasing TMNT’s abilities, the company’s creative director, Ed Boon, recently shared a screenshot showing how their combat revolves around teamwork. As seen below in the tweet from Boon, Injustice 2 fans can get a glimpse at two of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Michelangelo and Raphael – delivering some of their trademark Turtle Power to Black Manta. In the image, Michelangelo appears to be winding up for a punch, while Raphael is on course to introduce a skateboard deck to the Aquaman arch nemesis’ head. At this point, … [Read more...] about Injustice 2 Screenshot Shows Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teamwork
The magic-wielding Enchantress will arrive in NetherRealm Studios' fighting game Injustice 2 next week for some players, the developer has announced, and you can watch her supernatural move set in action in her first gameplay trailer, above. On Tuesday she'll appear in the roster of anybody that bought the game's Ultimate Edition, Ultimate Pack, or Fighter Pack 3. Everybody else can purchase her from January 16 (previous fighters have cost $6 each). I like the look of her flashy skills, especially her Super Move, in which she drags her opponent's soul out of their body and beats them up with it (skip to 1:15 for that). She can suspend her enemies in a magical force field, freeze them in a block of ice, and summon a demonic fist to crush them from above. A lot of fans have noticed the similarities between her and Quan Chi, who featured in Mortal Kombat, another NeatherRealm game. You can certainly see the resemblance, particularly when Enchantress puts her enemies in a trance and makes … [Read more...] about Injustice 2 adds Enchantress next week, watch her magic destroy opponents in new trailer
