After becoming Steam’s biggest launch of 2018, Monster Hunter World is now setting new records only days after launch. On release day, the PC version of Monster Hunter World peaked at over 240,901 concurrent players on Steam. This was the highest for any 2018 game on release, and certainly Capcom’s best ever launch on PC. Monster Hunter World launched on a Thursday, though, so there was always a chance the numbers could get a nice boost on the weekend. This is exactly what happened over the weekend. The game peaked at 334,684 concurrent (Steam Charts stats yet to catch up) players on steam, almost 100,000 players more than its launch day record. A decidedly impressive performance for a series once thought to be a niche, Japan-only game. It was so popular, in fact, that it remained ahead of mainstays like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive over the same weekend. Sony, and Microsoft generally do not reveal concurrent player numbers, so it’s hard to say how this compares … [Read more...] about Monster Hunter World breaks its own Steam record, sales estimated at over 2 million

We've been testing out the PC version of Monster Hunter: World on a variety of systems to see how it handles and the overall impression has been that it's a demanding port, but one that's loaded with graphics options.Over on the Resetera forums, in a thread rounding up previews and impressions of the port, Capcom USA's vice president of digital platforms and marketing William Yagi-Bacon weighed in to explain why it's so demanding on the CPU in particular."To eliminate interstitial loading during active gameplay, MHW loads the entire level into memory. In addition to managing assets loaded into memory, it keeps track of monster interactions, health status, environment/object changes, manages LOD & object culling, calculates collision detection and physics simulation, and tons of other background telemetry stuff that you don't see yet requires CPU cycle. This is in addition to supporting any GPU rendering tasks."While the MT Framework engine has been around for ages, it does a good … [Read more...] about Capcom explain why the Monster Hunter: World port is CPU-heavy
By Sherif Saed, Monday, 5 February 2018 17:42 GMT After two months as the best-selling paid game on the Xbox Store, PUBG was overtaken by Monster Hunter World. It’s clear that Monster Hunter World has been very popular. The game has shipped 5 million units so far, including digital sales, across PS4, and Xbox One. Although Capcom left Xbox One out of the game’s pre-launch betas and you couldn’t find Xbox gameplay before launch, Monster Hunter World has seemingly managed to do well on Microsoft’s platform regardless. In the US, Monster Hunter World managed to topple PUBG off the number one spot for the most popular paid game. In the UK, PUBG held it off at number two. These updates were spotted by ResetEra forum members, who noticed the change up in the top five. Unfortunately, PC players will be waiting a while before they can play the game on PC. World hits PC sometime this fall. If you didn’t wait, and you’re finding some of World’s … [Read more...] about Monster Hunter World overtakes PUBG as the top paid game on the Xbox Store
There’s been a notable amount of Monster Hunter talk on the Destiny Reddit over recent months. Sometimes, it’s come as part of discussions between disgruntled Guardians regarding which games to play while waiting for new content and the implementation of Bungie’s mammoth list of 2018 improvements. Sometimes it’s come during lighter chats about general gaming outside of Destiny. Sometimes, Capcom’s brilliant, dino-slaying, co-op RPG has even formed the basis of fan-crafted design dreams for future Destiny 2 expansions, and even Destiny 3. If you’re uninitiated in either game, that might come as a surprise. From the outside, there may seem little cross-over between a Halo-inspired, loot collecting, sci-fi FPS and a dense, often opaque, Japanese third-person action-RPG. But Monster Hunter World seems to have really got the attention of the Vanguard right now. Outside of Reddit, I’ve heard from multiple, Destiny-playing friends in the industry … [Read more...] about Why do so many Destiny players seem to love Monster Hunter World all of a sudden?
