Earlier today, Microsoft announced a major change to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. The Xbox One platform-holder confirmed that Game Pass subscribers would have access to first-party titles the same day that they release globally. It was a very big deal, but that’s not the only thing that fans are getting excited about. While writing about the change to Xbox Game Pass in an article on the official Xbox Wire blog, Microsoft’s new head of gaming, Phil Spencer, hinted at Gears of War 5. Spencer said that fans should expect “future unannounced games” from Microsoft Studios to be included as part of the Xbox Game Pass launch day fun. This includes “new iterations of our biggest Xbox One exclusive franchises such as Halo, Forza, and Gears of War.” The confirmation that a new Gears of War game is on the cards seems obvious. Gears of War 4 reviewed well and sold strongly, aided by the fact that it is a Play Anywhere title (players could … [Read more...] about Gears of War 5 Confirmed by Microsoft?
A new version of Microsoft's expensive Xbox Elite controller appears to have been outed online. Photos showing the upgraded Xbox Elite pad first appeared on Chinese site Baidu and were then independently verified by The Verge, which also noted how the photos backed up Microsoft patents filed at the end of last year. A separate photo from reddit user EDDS86 then appeared, which showed off the controller in full: The new pad has - finally - a USB-C port for charging. Frankly, it was ridiculous the original Xbox Elite controller still ran on AA batteries and didn't have a charge pack included. Other new features will reportedly include a three-profile switch, three-level Hair Trigger Locks, a longer key travel for those interchangeable paddles, plus Windows 10 Bluetooth support. The Verge's report also includes word of a case which will charge the controller while on the go. Handy! … [Read more...] about Looks like Microsoft’s pricy Xbox Elite controller is getting an upgrade

Microsoft is working on a new "career" system for Xbox achievements, aiming to extend beyond the current Gamerscore system which rewards a tallied number to players for completing certain objectives in a game. As reported by Windows Central, the new system is allegedly being implemented to alleviate the problem where Gamerscore doesn't fairly represent the accomplishments of esports players or other gamers who might spend the majority of their time in a single game. This new career system could affect how developers choose to use achievements in their games, which could serve to attach new meaning to the score. Although not intended to replace Gamerscore, the career system will incorporate achievements by rewarding experience points that … [Read more...] about Microsoft is working on a new Xbox career system
