The Japanese statistics firm Media Create released its weekly analysis, giving us an even clearer picture of the Japanese market on top of what we saw with Wednesday’s top-twenty. We learned that the 28,430 copies sold by Dagon Quest Builders for Nintendo Switch were pretty much in line with Dragon Quest Heroes I-II, that debuted with 26,000 copies sold. With the Switch on its 53rd week on the Japanese shelves, it sold 3,802,910 units so far. This is significantly ahead of the Wii U, which sold 1,219,000 in the same period. On the other hand, the new console falls just short of the Wii, which ended its 53rd week with 3,871,000 units sold. The Wii managed to sell over three million units in its second year as well, and Media Create explains that we’ll have to watch and see if the Switch will follow the same trajectory as the older console. Last, but not least, Media Create argues that since Nintendo Launched several strong first-party games in the first year, the key to … [Read more...] about New Nintendo Switch Users Drawn by Labo Will Be Key in the Second Year According to Media Create
Following its top-twenty ranking released on Wednesday, Media Create just concluded the week by posting its full analysis of the Japanese market between February 5th and February 11th. The analysis focuses mostly on Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors 9. Unfortunately, while the 117,495 sold last week are nothing to sneeze at, they represent only 70.59% of the initial shipment. This is also less than 60% of the release of Dynasty Warriors 8 in 2013, which debuted with 203,000 copies. Media Create blames the drop in sales on the fact that the series has been absent from the shelves for five years, and to the major change in gameplay with the introduction of the open world system. In addition to that, there is also the possibility that a “considerable” amount of users were absorbed by Capcom’s Monster Hunter World, which ranked first for three consecutive weeks. Dynasty Warriors 9 launched in Japan on February 8th, and Koei Tecmo was actually rather … [Read more...] about Media Create Blames Monster Hunter World, Open World and More for Dynasty Warriors 9’s Drop in Sales
Following the reveal of the top-twenty sales chart related to last week on Wednesday, Media Create released today its weekly analysis, giving further information on the performance of Monster Hunter World in the country. The game was sold locally only for PS4, so the data listed below does not involve the Xbox One version. We learn that the game sold 92.07% of the initial shipment, which means that it came very close to selling out. It also pushed total software sales so much that they were over three times higher compared to the prior week. Compared to earlier chapters of the series, its 1,245,169 units sold in a week are about 1.5 times the debut of Monster Hunter XX for 3DS (848,000 units). If we look at the latest dedicated release on home consoles, which was Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, World sold over twice as many copies (Tri debuted with 520,000 units). Besides being the best-selling debut on PS4 in Japan, it also drove sales of the … [Read more...] about Monster Hunter World Sold 92% of the Initial Shipment in Japan; Media Create Expects Long-Term Sales
