Microsoft has removed all mention of Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson from the game’s splash screens. 19w13a is the latest version of Minecraft, and in the patch, Microsoft made an unusual change. The game’s splash screens no longer reference creator Markus “Notch” Persson. According to Minecraft’s Gamepedia Wiki, exactly three splash screen references were removed. Those being, “Made by Notch!”, “The Work of Notch!”, and “110813!” The change was spotted by @decrepitlab, who verified it in the game’s splashes.txt file; a repository of all the different possible phrases. Minecraft’s splash screens typically pull from that file, and only the three mentioned above referenced Notch. A new Minecraft update has removed references to creator Markus "Notch" Persson from the game's main menu. Messages such as "Made by Notch!", "The Work of Notch!" and "110813!" - a nod to the date Notch got married - now no longer appear. Notch is still listed as Minecraft's creator in the game's credits, however. Microsoft, which has owned Minecraft since Notch sold all rights to it for $2.5bn back in 2014, is yet to comment on the decision. But the change feels like it has been a while coming. The latest Minecraft Java snapshot release, 19w13a, adds a few new features like a status effect called "Hero of the Village" and an accessibility button on the title screen. It fixes 22 bugs, according to the official patch notes, and adds a number of new quotes to the splash screen, like "Don't worry, be happy!" and "Go to the dentist." It also scrubs two splash screen messages that referenced original Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson.As spotted by Twitter user decrepitlab, the Minecraft wiki lists the removal of the text "Made by Notch!" and "The Work of Notch!" in the March 27 snapshot. Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch‘ Persson has claimed that the QAnon conspiracy theory, which suggests that high-profile political figures such as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are engaged in a widespread pedophilia ring, is “legit.” After openly advocating the far-right conspiracy, Notch added that it had “gotten people digging real deep to uncover the truth.” Notch took to Twitter to express his thoughts regarding QAnon, tweeting his belief of the conspiracy theory to his 3.7 million followers. Notch Could be Working on a Minecraft Successor
Markus "Notch" Persson could be working on a successor to Minecraft, with him recently revealing a series of images and videos from a new project with a similarly eye-catching design. Notch is most famous for developing Minecraft before he handed over its Microsoft, with him selling both the sandbox game and his studio Mojang for an estimated $2 billion. Since then, Notch has mostly stayed away from game development, though he recently uploaded a slew of screenshots and videos for his new project "Voxels_WebGL2." Notch has noted that the project is "definitely not a sequel to anything," but if this project does become something more substantial then it will be the first proper game he's released since Minecraft.
