The popular multiplayer RPG Phantasy Star Online 2 (first launched in 2012 on PC) now has a release date for a Nintendo Switch version, which was revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct livestream for Japan. However, those in North America and Europe will be disappointed to find out that (like all previous versions of PSO 2) the game will only release in Japan. The game was announced for Switch last year, but there is now a definitive release date: April 4, 2018.The Switch version is called Phantasy Star Online 2: Cloud, and it will include equipment and costumes from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Next month, Grand Theft Auto 5 celebrates its third birthday on PC. And yet, despite its age, the open world crime simulator attracted record player numbers last year—driven by GTA Online's Doomsday Heist, which launched on December 12, 2017. Promising new players a leg up in Los Santos for £40/$40, I picked up the multiplayer welcome bundle and raised a single profile from level 16 to 85 in just short of five weeks. I maxed out my character's skill stats and earned a small fortune along the way, but sunk dozens of hours into the game during this time. Facebook has launched a Women in Gaming initiative that seeks to encourage more women to take up roles in the game industry and spotlight female leaders already in the field. The project seeks to address the fact that women, especially women of color, are underrepresented in the game development industry by offering information and research to support women looking to enter the field. So far, Facebook has released 20 videos on its new Women in Gaming page to give women in the industry a chance to share their own stories. Those ‘#SheTalksGames’ interviews capture the perspectives of women working in executive roles, HR positions, development and engineering, marketing, production, and more. Aside from sharing stories from women in the game industry, Facebook is also partnering with other organizations like the European Women in Games conference and Women in Games WIGJ to support women in the industry at video game conferences and events. Today, Activision Blizzard revealed its financial results for the fourth quarter of Calendar Year 2017. Unlike basically everyone in the industry, Activision doesn’t calendarize according to the fiscal year, so the period is between October 1st and December 31st, 2017.
