August 9, 2018 thesun Leave a Comment

THERE'S no shortage of rumours and leaks about the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 – the upcoming iPhone killer. Here's what we know so far, including the latest Galaxy Note 9 UK release date news, plus details on specs and price from a top analyst. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 – what is it? Samsung's 'Note' smartphones are generally the company's most powerful and impressive devices. They're built for power users who want top performance, and who are willing to spend a lot of money on their new device. It's also the line of phones that produced the Galaxy Note 7, which was eventually scrapped after it kept bursting into flames. This year's Galaxy phone will be a direct competitor to Apple's high-end iPhone X, and will have class-leading features. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 release date – when is it out? Samsung generally waits until late summer or early autumn to launch its Note phones and this year is no different. This gives the company a chance to get in ahead of Apple, which typically … [Read more...] about Samsung Galaxy Note 9 – UK release date, latest news, features rumours and expert predictions

Alt.Ctrl.GDC Showcase: Too Many Captains

February 1, 2018 robert Leave a Comment

The 2018 Game Developer's Conference will feature an exhibition called Alt.Ctrl.GDC dedicated to games that use alternative control schemes and interactions. Gamasutra will be talking to the developers of each of the games that have been selected for the showcase. You can find all such interviews by clicking here! Too Many Captains (And Not Enough Wire) will involve a lot of wire-swapping (and communication between friends) to safely pilot a starship through dangerous territory. One player is given access to a control panel and only enough wire to power a few ship functions (shields, weapons, etc), but only knows what to hook up based on what other players tell them to as they won't be looking at the screen. This turns ship piloting into a frantic game of teamwork and communication as players work their way through space.  Gamasutra spoke with Avi Romanoff and Giada Sun, developers of Too Many Captains (And Not Enough Wire) to talk about the … [Read more...] about Alt.Ctrl.GDC Showcase: Too Many Captains

The state of virtual reality

June 8, 2017 robert Leave a Comment

One could argue that the age of virtual reality kicked-off during last year's Game Developers Conference, an event that nearly coincided with the launch of two of the technology's most important head-mounted displays in recent history: the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. Months later — virtual reality hype still continuing to build — E3 opened its doors, giving retailers, streamers, journalists and developers a chance to look at a flood of VR games, apps, accessories and the soon-to-be released PlayStation VR headset. That show — E3 2016 — was both the peak and turning point of virtual reality hype: highlighting the best and worst of technology in a setting almost designed to strip away nuance. Stories both exulted the big showing as a tremendous success for VR games and decried it as a massive misstep for VR. E3 demonstrated the worst of the tech, according to The Verge. E3 2016 was the moment VR gaming finally made sense, according to Vice. Cnet wrote that the … [Read more...] about The state of virtual reality

What the game industry thinks of Nintendo’s Switch

February 26, 2017 robert Leave a Comment

Four days from today, Nintendo's latest console will go on sale. A little over four years since the launch of Wii U, a little over four months since Nintendo announced Switch, and to many, the system seems like a breath of fresh air — a game console Transformer full of potential with a steady stream of software to back it up. To some, though, the system seems incomplete. From early reports of controllers that don't properly sync to a limited launch lineup, a lack of non-game apps like Netflix, a missing Virtual Console library and lingering questions about the online service, there's a simplicity to Switch's launch that recalls the '90s — Zelda is Mario 64, and if you don't want that or a few other games, you might not need the system right away. In time, Nintendo will address those issues. Yet more than most consoles, Switch remains a bit of a mystery at launch. Are motion controls going to be a big part of it? What type of player will Switch developers cater to? And will … [Read more...] about What the game industry thinks of Nintendo’s Switch
