Uncharted might have once been PlayStation's golden goose, but the reaction to a recent report into The Last of Us remake revealed it's curious position in the wider landscape now. News that Day's Gone developer Sony Bend were in the pre-production phase of a new Uncharted game would have almost certainly dominated headlines years ago, but now it seems to be a curious side note, nothing more than a bit of color buried under bigger revelations. But it nevertheless offers up a tantalising glimpse of a potential future for fans. While Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier has gone on to state that this project might not exist now , he also said in a recent appearance on the MinnMax show that it was “supposed to be an Uncharted spin-off, not Uncharted 5 or something like that. For sure there will be new Uncharted games in the future, who knows if that particular one will continue. But that doesn't even mean anything, it was just paper design.” So while it's unlikely that we'll be … [Read more...] about Uncharted might be making a comeback, but should it be with Naughty Dog?

Elite Dangerous’ Odyssey expansion gets May release date on PC
Elite Dangerous' Odyssey expansion, which adds the likes of on-foot traversal and first-person shooty-bang to the long-running space sim series, is coming to PC in its final form on 19th May. Odyssey promises to deliver the biggest shake-up Elite Dangerous has yet seen by giving space explorers the opportunity to leave their ships and stretch their legs around space stations, settlements, and across planetary terrain. Developer Frontier's long-awaited discovery of below-waist appendages is accompanied by a range of new activities designed to give Commanders more (mostly leg-based) gameplay options while galavanting around Elite Dangerous' procedurally generated galaxy. Unraveling the curious history of videogame mazes and labyrinths
The history of mazes and labyrinths is a maze itself. The first recorded labyrinth was commissioned by the Egyptian king Amenemhet III thousands of years ago: unlike the Minotaur labyrinth of Greek myth, this was built to be lived in, with banqueting halls, temples, and offices. Since then, mazes have been cut from turf, mosaicked on cathedral floors, stamped on coins, hacked into cornfields, formed by parking tourbuses, and fashioned from hedgerows as dallying spots for English aristocrats. Mazes and labyrinths generate a surprising range of emotions. Partly, this is because the former isn't quite the same as the latter. The associations of the noun 'maze' are largely negative, referring to bewilderment, deceit and worldly distraction. A labyrinth is a similarly confusing structure, but the word has acquired more positive senses over time—it can serve as a place for reverie and contemplation. Psychotherapists like Dr. Lauren Artress have even prescribed labyrinth-walking as a form … [Read more...] about Unraveling the curious history of videogame mazes and labyrinths
How Carrie Fisher’s memoir inspired Mark Millar to write the superhero series Jupiter’s Legacy
Jupiter's Legacy, a brand new superhero TV show, is arriving on Netflix soon. Based on the comic series penned by Mark Millar and illustrated by Frank Quitely, Jupiter's Legacy is the first TV project stemming from Netflix's 2017 acquisition of Millarworld Limited and all its properties. The ambitious saga chronicles a generation of superheroes, beginning in the Roaring '20s when they acquired their powers and banded together to form the super-squad the Union of Justice. As for how the idea came together, Millar explains to our sister publication SFX Magazine that a Star Wars actor was a big influence. "The idea came to me when I read Carrie Fisher's memoirs," Millar says. "She was talking about how even though she was Princess Leia, and everyone loves Carrie Fisher, she never thought that she really was special because her mum and dad [actor Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher] were two of the most famous people on the planet. That really stayed with me. I thought, 'Even … [Read more...] about How Carrie Fisher’s memoir inspired Mark Millar to write the superhero series Jupiter’s Legacy
