Marvel has released the first image of its upcoming series Echo, slated for release on Disney+ sometime in 2023. A picture tweeted by the comics giant shows Alaqua Cox as in the title role. Cox originated the role in last year's Hawkeye series. In a release, Marvel shares that production is now underway in Atlanta for the spin-off--first announced last year--and joining Cox in the cast are Chaske Spencer (Wild Indian, The English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon, Stumptown), Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs, American Gods) and Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!, Four Sheets to the Wind), Graham Greene (1883, Goliath) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds, Reservation Dogs). When AEW's CM Punk made his first appearance as Paul, Gilly's (Vincent "Rocco" Vargas) military veteran friend in Season 2 of FX's Mayans MC , it was a shock. Practically unannounced before airing, Punk's appearance on such a high-profile show was a delight for wrestling fans. Once the character's story started to unfold over the fourth and fifth episode of the season, though, it quickly became clear how important a story it was. Paul, like many who have served in the military, is dealing with a pretty severe case of post-traumatic stress disorder. Marvel series Echo has begun production with Disney Plus sharing a first look at the new show. The image sees Alaqua Cox return as Maya Lopez following her introduction in Hawkeye . The show is now filming in Atlanta ahead of its debut on the streaming platform in 2023. Not much is known about the new series yet but the first look shows Lopez in action as she hides in a warehouse. Marvel has also revealed that the new series will be an origin story as Lopez becomes Echo. A new synopsis teases: "The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward."
