2064: Read Only Memories might have my favourite opening of any game ever. I'm thinking specifically about the bit you can play in a demo on Steam. You're a writer, sat in your tiny apartment, procrastinating about writing a review of some fancy new headphones. You manage to power through the review and go to sleep after flicking eyes across the local news, and then you wake up in the middle of the night when a polite robot breaks in and tidies up. 2064 is the work of MidBoss, a studio based in Berkeley, California, and which specialises in games with a LGBTQIA+ focus and a strong sense of diversity and inclusivity. The game is an adventure affair set in a future poised on the brink of three singularities, and in the opening ten minutes there's a brilliant joke about being a writer and an excellent discussion of Asimov's laws of robotics. I've spent the morning playing the demo for Read Only Memories: Neurodiver , the studio's follow-up. It's every bit as good as 2064. Amazon Launches GameOn App On iOS
GameOn, Amazon's mobile gaming capture app, has come to iOS after dropping on Android last November, and Amazon is looking to make it big. As reported by TechCrunch , the app allows users to capture gameplay clips from mobile games, which can then be saved to a library and posted publicly on the GameOn sharing platform. Clips made within GameOn are also designed to be shared outside the app "via social media services or by sending direct links to friends." Amazon is hoping to build its userbase by partnering with streamers who will focus on mobile gaming content for the app. It's also publicizing a series of "weekly challenges" for GameOn users, with the winners gaining more exposure on … [Read more...] about Amazon Launches GameOn App On iOS
This Phasmophobia rapper has no right to go this hard
The other day I had to clear out some space on my PC and, as ever, went for old gameplay clips. I found a Phasmophobia one from late last year, at the point where most of my buddies had stopped playing the game and so I was entering random lobbies as a solo player. One time, in the small hours of the morning, I ran into a group of players I can only describe as a kind of Phasmophobia musical improv. It's a little faint at first but certainly builds, and apologies in advance for the odd f-bomb. If you have any love for this game it'll crack you up. The most remarkable thing about this rap is how tailored it is to the game and what's going on. At the start it's about UV lights and the fingerprints they've spotted, before what I'll call the party room reveal and the best use of glowsticks ever in a game. … [Read more...] about This Phasmophobia rapper has no right to go this hard
