Netflix Exec Thinks Exclusive Theatrical Release Windows Will Go Away

· March 3, 2021 ·

Netflix product chief Greg Peters, who also became the streaming service's chief operating officer in 2020, says the company is poised to help lead the charge for further eroding theatrical windows preceding streaming debuts for content. Speaking with Deadline , Peters predicted, "It's what consumers want. It's hard to buck that trend for too long and I think that's eventually where things go." In December when competitor Warner Bros. announced it intended to put its entire theatrical line-up onto streaming services such as HBO Max, production companies, directors, and actors were predictably not pleased . It was also not exactly a shock to learn that Warner was reportedly trying to offset that surprising move by offering bonuses to stars impacted by the move to streaming-only releases-- one report had Denzel Washington receiving $20 million plus a backend fee , for example. In an interview, veteran director Christopher Nolan summed his feelings up bluntly, … [Read more...] about Netflix Exec Thinks Exclusive Theatrical Release Windows Will Go Away

PlayStation Store discontinuing TV and movie purchases and rentals

· March 2, 2021 ·

The PlayStation Store will be discontinuing movie and TV purchases and rentals later this year. The discontinuing of rentals and purchases through the PSN Store was announced over on the PlayStation Blog earlier today. "We’ve seen tremendous growth from PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment streaming services on our consoles," explains Vanessa Lee, head of video business at Sony. "With this shift in customer behavior, we have decided to no longer offer movie and TV purchases and rentals through PlayStation Store as of August 31, 2021." It's important to note, however, that after movie and TV purchases and rentals are discontinued through the PSN Store, you can still access all previously purchased content. So if you purchased any TV shows or movies prior to August 31, you'll still be able to watch them whenever you want. We can't say that the move away from on-demand content like this comes as a huge surprise from Sony. The company all but … [Read more...] about PlayStation Store discontinuing TV and movie purchases and rentals

New on ComiXology Unlimited (March 2021): All the comics and manga arriving

· March 2, 2021 ·

There is a plethora of comic books coming to Amazon's ComiXology Unlimited digital comics reading service in march - Marvel, DC, Image Comics, IDW Publishing, Boom! Studios, and more… but one big thing stands out. Vertigo. The complete runs of the original Hellblazer (300 issues!), Preacher (66 issues!), and Lucifer series (75 issues!) have been added to ComiXology Unlimited this month. In addition, over 200 issues of various Swamp Thing series have also been added. No specific reason has been given for this Vertigo-centric comics dump, but in some cases, it's best not to complain and just start reading (or re-reading, as the case may be). Some decidedly un-Vertigo fare being added as well this month is a heaping helping of Disney cartoon tales. Several collections have been added of Mickey House, Donald Duck, Donald and Mickey, Uncle Scrooge, and DuckTales. Staying on that anthropomorphic tip, there's also Snoopy: Beagle of Mars and six volumes of Garfield arriving this … [Read more...] about New on ComiXology Unlimited (March 2021): All the comics and manga arriving

Paramount+: Price, Original Content, And More

· March 4, 2021 ·

Paramount+ , a rebranded version of CBS All Access, launched today, March 4. Though it still very much looks like CBS All Access in terms of content right now, Paramount+ promises to offer far more original content and movies than were previously available on All Access. The expanded service will look to compete with big streaming names such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, and Disney+. We've rounded up all of the details you need to know about Paramount+. How much does Paramount+ cost? Paramount+ currently has two subscription plans that are available to purchase: a mostly ad-free premium plan for $10 per month and an ads-supported basic plan for $6. The ads-supported plan has been rolled over from CBS All Access, but it will decrease in price to $5 in June. It's important to note that the ad-free plan will still have ads for live TV streams. ViacomCBS also says that "a few shows include brief promotional interruptions to keep you in the loop on new and upcoming Paramount+ … [Read more...] about Paramount+: Price, Original Content, And More

The Valheim community continues to make crazy-ass forts

· March 4, 2021 ·

Even the dirtiest, meanest Viking knows the importance of apartment therapy. After a long day of mining iron in the muck of a deep swamp crypt, you need somewhere warm and bright to come home to, a place where you can grab a horn of mead, a bowl of carrot stew, and truly unwind. For me, home is a wooden shack with a single torch the greydwarves want nothing to do with. I am not sure what their deal is. But with talented architects now a month into Valheim , we're seeing homes with true square footage and lovely interiors crop up every day. I'll never be able to afford places like this, but for once it's not because I don't have enough money. I just don't have enough time or talent. What a relief. Unlike Steven in his last Valheim home survey , I don't have a weird obsession with Architectural Digest, but I do think about buildings sometimes. How did they get there? What are they for? Did a prison architect design this? As an apartment dweller doing his best to … [Read more...] about The Valheim community continues to make crazy-ass forts
