Disney Plus Adds Parental Controls, Opening The Door For R-Rated Content

· February 24, 2021 ·

Streaming services give us access to thousands of hours of content, with only licensing agreements to act as curation. That's tantalizing for us grown-ups, but it's a far cry from the crafted experiences of specific television channels or a DVD collection. Parental controls are crucial to help make sure our kids--from toddler to teen--are able to watch the shows appropriate, and while Disney+ has lacked them since its launch in 2019, that's no longer the case. Disney+ added parental controls this week, which feature a variety of age ranges, as well as the ability to add a PIN to lock profiles that have access to mature content so that you can still watch the Muppet Show on your profile, but keep control over what your children see. By default, accounts are set to view TV-14 and PG-13 content and below, which encompasses everything currently on Disney+. Age Profiles for the service are as follows: 0+ 6+ 9+ 12+ 14+ 16+ 18+ In addition to creating a PIN, you can also … [Read more...] about Disney Plus Adds Parental Controls, Opening The Door For R-Rated Content

Cyberpunk 2077 is no GTA, but GTA 2 was a cyberpunk game

· February 24, 2021 ·

Society is in rapid decay. With the crime rate soaring and biochemical dependency in healthy proliferation, you are about to have the time of your life. The city is on the edge of collapse, with law and order beginning to break down completely. People are running wild, half-addled on food additives and semi-legal pharmaceutical pills. A giant corporation controls every aspect of society, from entertainment to organ transplants. Everything is polluted, dirty, unpleasant. Life has never been cheaper. It’s a premise that belongs in a sourcebook for Cyberpunk 2020. Instead, improbably, it’s the way Rockstar chose to introduce GTA 2. Just two years before the series unfolded in three dimensions, expanding its audience in kind, the mainline Grand Theft Auto was a rock ‘n’ roll sci-fi dystopia. GTA 2 belongs to an experimental period in the late ‘90s, when Rockstar believed the series could be basically anything. Earlier the same year, the publisher had released GTA: London 1969, a … [Read more...] about Cyberpunk 2077 is no GTA, but GTA 2 was a cyberpunk game

The MCU Probably Won’t Go R-Rated Any Time Soon

· February 24, 2021 ·

During a panel interview with the Television Critics Association, Marvel Studios CCO Kevin Feige confirmed that while they have begun "working with Deadpool," a famously R-rated character they recently acquired during the Disney merger with Fox Studios, other MCU projects will likely stay PG-13. This confirmation came thanks to a question about the future of Marvel's projects skewing more adult. This news may put a damper on the buzz surrounding the rights to characters like T he Punisher and Jessica Jones returning from Netflix to Disney . The famously ultra violent Netflix Marvel universe has been a point of much speculation and theorization for fans now that the MCU stepped into the streaming TV show arena in earnest. That doesn't mean the future of the MCU is PG-13 all the way down, however. Feige explained that Marvel has already begun work with Deadpool which has "already established itself as a certain genre and a certain rating, and we've already said we wouldn't … [Read more...] about The MCU Probably Won’t Go R-Rated Any Time Soon

The state of The Elder Scrolls Online in 2021

· February 24, 2021 ·

Have you ever had to grow into your gear? The Elder Scrolls Online has. The Elder Scrolls MMO was not a smash success when it debuted on the heels of Skyrim in 2014. Those first months were rough (just ask players to relive those beta and early experiences and look for the trauma in their eyes). But over time, TESO got better, becoming a rich world that tied together many aspects of the Elder Scrolls universe. It took players back to Morrowind, the most beloved Elder Scrolls setting, and mostly pulled it off . As it grew, the MMORPG's popularity also increased. In early 2021, Bethesda's Pete Hines lauded TESO as "the most successful Bethesda game over the last four years." And this past year was its most popular yet. While Steam is only one of the platforms The Elder Scrolls Online is available on, its charts show the game's upward trend . April 2020 had the highest average player count ever, and it's consistently averaging higher than previous years. The developers … [Read more...] about The state of The Elder Scrolls Online in 2021
